Points East Veterinary Specialty Hospital (VSH) is a cutting-edge medical facility spanning 17,000 square feet, dedicated to providing exceptional veterinary care with a focus on emergency and critical care services. Our state-of-the-art facility operates 24/7, staffed by a dedicated team of over 80 professionals, including two boarded surgeons, a boarded criticalist, and a team of 13 experienced ER doctors. The hospital was designated in October 2024 as a Level III VECCS facility.
The hospital offers outpatient diagnostic imaging services, including ultrasound and Computed Tomography (CT), to ensure comprehensive care for our patients. The hospital intends to add additional specialty services to include Internal Medicine and Ophthalmology. The hospital is identified as having a culture centered on learning, teamwork, and growth by visiting doctors and relief staff.
Position Overview:
The ER/ICU Operations Manager plays a crucial role in the day-to-day functioning of the emergency room (ER) and intensive care unit (ICU) at Points East VSH. Reporting directly to the Hospital Administrator, this position is responsible for coordinating and overseeing the operational activities within the ER and ICU departments, ensuring seamless workflow, optimal patient care, modern client experience, and efficient utilization of resources. The ER/ICU Operations Manager will collaborate closely with other department managers to maintain high standards of care and enhance the overall effectiveness of hospital operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operational Oversight: Coordinate and manage the day-to-day operations of the ER and ICU departments, ensuring efficient patient flow, timely response to emergencies, and adherence to established protocols and procedures. At times, act in the capacity as a Veterinary Technician or Assistant.
- Staff Management: Provide leadership and guidance to the ER and ICU teams, including direct reports which may include Shift leads, and assistant managers. Support staff development through training, performance evaluations, and ongoing mentorship.
- Resource Allocation: Optimize staffing levels, equipment, and supplies within the ER and ICU departments to meet patient care needs while maintaining cost-effectiveness and efficiency.
- Quality Assurance: Implement quality assurance measures to monitor and evaluate the delivery of patient care within the ER and ICU departments. Identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions as necessary to ensure the highest standards of quality and safety.
- Collaboration: Foster collaboration and communication with other department managers, veterinary specialists, and support staff to facilitate interdisciplinary care, streamline processes, and enhance the overall patient experience.
- Emergency Response: Serve as a point of contact for emergency situations, participating in on-call rotations and providing support as needed to ensure 24/7 coverage and continuity of care.
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and hospital policies within the ER and ICU departments, maintaining documentation and records as necessary.
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Previous experience in veterinary emergency and critical care settings, with a strong understanding of ER/ICU operations and clinical workflows.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities, with a minimum of 3 years of supervisory or management experience in a healthcare or veterinary setting.
- Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, delegate responsibilities, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders and build cohesive teams.
- Flexibility to work on-call, holiday, and weekend hours as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate degree in veterinary science, Business Administration, Healthcare Management, or related field.
- North Carolina Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and Instinct EMR (Practice management system)
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift patients up to 40lbs throughout the workday with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
- Ability to frequently lift, walk, bend, twist, reach, push and squat
- The ability to communicate clearly and listen to information through speaking and spoken words
- The ability to communicate information in writing and understand information presented in writing
