Responsibilities:
- Assist the veterinary team in providing compassionate and comprehensive care to ICU patients.
- Maintain a clean and organized ICU environment, including cleaning kennels, changing bedding, and disinfecting surfaces. Adhere to proper infection control protocols.
- Prepare and organize equipment, supplies, and medications required for ICU procedures and treatments.
- Assist the veterinary team during specialized ICU procedures, such as venipuncture, urinary catheterization, and wound management.
- Observe and report changes in patient behavior, appetite, or physical condition to the veterinary team.
- Aid in administering treatments, medications, and intravenous fluids as directed by the veterinary team.
- Accurately document patient information, treatments, and observations in medical records.
- Provide friendly and professional communication with pet owners, answering general inquiries, relaying messages, and providing updates on patient care as directed by the veterinary team. Provide support to other departments or areas of the hospital as needed, contributing to the smooth operation of the veterinary facility.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience working in a veterinary ICU or critical care setting, preferred.
- Strong understanding of ICU procedures, patient handling, and basic medical terminology.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills to interact with the veterinary team and pet owners in a professional and compassionate manner.
- Demonstrated care and empathy for canine and feline patients, providing comfort and reassurance to patients in distress.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to handle physically demanding aspects of the job, including lifting, restraining, and assisting with the transportation of patients.
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift up walk, bend, twist, reach, push and squat most of the workday
- The ability to frequently lift or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds with or without accommodation
