What are the responsibilities and job description for the Veterinary Surgery Assistant Manager position at Vets Pets?
Responsible for directing the surgery teams through their daily routines and ensuring quality patient care through training and mentoring staff, as well as assisting the manager with staffing and administrative duties. The Assistant Manager carries out their duties under the supervision of the veterinarian and reports directly to the manager.

Responsibilities:
- Oversee surgical staff and monitor daily workflow to ensure efficiency of ER and ICU patient care
- Execute plans to minimize risk for future issues based on feedback learned from client incidents and feedback.
- Uphold training initiatives
- Conduct initial interviews for surgery staff
- Promptly and appropriately recognizes and addresses performance and behavioral concerns. Responds appropriately to staff feedback and concerns.
- Complete one ACT course per month at minimum
- Lead monthly staff meeting
- Create monthly staffing schedules
- Serves as a point of contact for staff call-outs and vacation requests.
- Ensures appropriate staffing levels to meet operational needs.
- Monitor inventory supply, maintenance and IT related issues
- Ensure all equipment is properly maintained in accordance with manufacturer recommendations, investigating and resolving issues which arise
- Ensures cleaning processes are consistently executed.

Required Skills/Abilities:
- History taking and obtaining objective patient data
- Patient restraint and assessment
- Venipuncture
- IVC placement
- Sample collection and handling
- Laboratory techniques
- Administration of parenteral, enteral, and topical medications
- Apply established emergency protocols and techniques
- Monitoring hospitalized patients
- Anesthesia maintenance and patient monitoring
- Knowledge of emergency surgical procedures and related equipment
- Patient prep and surgical assistance
- Understanding of aseptic techniques and implementation of sanitation standards
- Produce diagnostic radiographic and non-radiographic images

- Strong attention to detail regarding patient record keeping
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift, walk, bend, twist, reach, push and squat most of the workday
- The ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds with or without accommodation
Education & Experience:
- 1 -year veterinary experience
