Company website : Summary :

The intern will apply general building practices to hands-on zero-carbon home construction that is in progress.

The hands-on building will expand the intern's knowledge of green home building and techniques that will prepare him / her for working with other trades in the construction business, and could prepare them for completing a Michigan builders license.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

Use various materials such as concrete work, excavation, preparing worksites, additionally could be asked to help with siding and trim, hardwood flooring, wood doors and trim, tile, solar, PV components, PEX plumbing, heat pumps and more in residential multi-family structures.

Typical Construction Worker Responsibilities :

Help installing foundations and earth work.

Preparing and grading worksites.

Concrete preparation work.

Excavation work.

Framing walls, porches and decks.

Exterior siding and trim.

Installing radiant floor heating, PEX plumbing and domestic water supply systems.

Installing ducting, ventilation equipment and split system heat pumps.

Installing hardwood flooring.

Fitting and installing trim, doors, stairs and hardware.

Measuring, cutting, and joining materials made of wood or wood substitutes.

Reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, and sketches.

Participating in tours for the public and industry professionals.

Qualifications :

Intern must be able to learn to read building plans.

Construction workers must know how to use power tools for cutting and shaping wood components and other material.

Basic knowledge of electrical wiring, plumbing and / or mechanical systems is a plus.

Ability to problem-solve.

Good at organizing work spaces and job sites; clean and safe work environments.

NOTE : Because this is a SkillBridge Internship, it is understood that no single candidate will have equal expertise in all the areas of responsibility listed. Successful candidates will possess a compelling combination of many of them and the self-awareness and wisdom to leverage existing and / or new resources in the area(s) where they lack personal mastery.]

If the SkillBridge candidate and Volta Homes want to continue working together after the internship, the intern could fill a carpenter position at approximately $40K - $60K per year, depending on skills and qualifications.

Not all internships include certification training by Vets2PM, as many host companies include their own internship-focused training instead. If selected for an internship with Vets2PM please read your approval email, letter, and training plan to be sure you understand what is included in your internship.

Vets2PM Provides :

Certified Manager Certification or Business Development Professional Certification training and exam fee come with this internship through Vets2PM. You and the host company can decide which certification is the best for you and your goals.

Mentorship and guidance via regular SkillBridge Intern Zoom Meetings (1st and 3rd Thursdays of the month at Noon Eastern).

PM Fundamentals course, Resume writing, LinkedIn optimization, and interview skills course.

Other free resources, including an electronic copy of 'How to Speak Civilian Fluently'.

Salary : $40,000 - $60,000
