What are the responsibilities and job description for the Entry Level Transportation Designer position at VHB?
ABOUT THE POSITION
Our ideal candidate has an interest in the practice of transportation engineering across all modes and is eager to apply practical solutions to real world problems for our clients. Our ideal candidate is prepared to build their skills through on-the-job training on a variety of transportation projects that may include roadway corridors; multimodal networks; intersection/roundabout layout; stormwater and resiliency enhancements. This position includes developing and enhancing a diverse set of skills using innovative computer aided software and working with an integrated services team to produce solutions solving transportation corridor challenges throughout the state.
Please note: our office will be relocating from South Burlington to Winooski in April 2025.
Responsibilities
- Work within a team of professionals in developing transportation design and solutions for a multitude of transportation and highway-related projects
- Highway design
- Multimodal corridor design
- Drainage design
- Transportation corridor resiliency enhancements
- Traffic control development
- Preliminary and final design plans
- Contract documents, including specifications
- Engineer’s construction cost estimates
- Technical memorandums and reports
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Comfortable working independently as well as on a team
- Detail oriented, self-motivated, and committed
- Strong computer skills
- Critical thinking and problem solving
- Self-motivated with excellent attention to detail
- Enthusiasm to learn and ability to take responsibility
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent
- 0-1 years of professional experience, preferably related to transportation engineering
- MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, AutoCAD / Civil3D, InRoads, HyrdroCAD experience a plus
