ABOUT THE POSITION
VHB’s Wethersfield, CT office is looking for a Summer Intern to assist the Structural and Transit & Rail Teams for the Summer of 2025. This position will introduce the student to the workplace and build essential professional skills by offering opportunities for hands-on learning in a supportive yet challenging environment. This real-world experience will round out the student’s academic learning and help them explore related areas of practice to find the best fit for their career path.
Responsibilities
- Effectively interact with numerous VHB staff, clients, and other consultants to advance projects in a timely manner
- Assist with the development of planning and engineering solutions
- Assist with engineering calculations, analysis, and report preparation
- Assist with completion of conceptual, preliminary, and final construction plans
- Perform quantity take-offs and calculations for construction estimates
- Perform field investigations and data collection for new and ongoing projects
Skills and Attributes
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to independently manage multiple tasks and interact appropriately and positively with team members
- Willingness to support different engineering disciplines
- Self-motivated with attention to detail
- Good time management skills and the ability to meet deadline
- A strong work ethic with the desire to learn and achieve
- Knowledge of drawing and mapping tools such as AutoCAD and GIS; MicroStation experience, or the desire/ability to learn, a plus
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) required
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering or related field
