Job Purpose

The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) develops and implements clinical intervention for children with autism spectrum disorder and/or related disabilities who experience communication deficits. Treatment occurs primarily in the Pediatric ABA clinic space; however, occasional visits to homes, schools, or other providers may occur for service coordination. The SLP provides intervention related to all areas of communication and provides parent and staff consult and training as needed. The SLP takes an active role in ensuring all communication services are delivered in accordance with current evidence-based practices and are provided in an ethical manner. The Speech-Language Pathologist works collaboratively with Behavior Analysts, Clinical Psychologists, and Behavior Technicians, as appropriate. The SLP maintains a weekly billable caseload of service hours as directed by the Director of Pediatric ABA Services.

Duties and Responsibilities

Treatment Plan Development and Implementation

  • Evaluate potential clients using appropriate and comprehensive assessments
  • Develop observable and measurable treatment goals across the domains of articulation, expressive and receptive language, pragmatics, and alternative and augmentative communication
  • Include parent input in treatment plan development
  • Submit evaluations and treatment plans to insurance as needed

Direct Speech-Language Services

  • Run sessions with prescribed communication programs 
  • Probe proposed changes to communication programs and report findings back to team 
  • Engineer and maximize opportunities for using a variety of language (e.g., requesting, labeling, commenting, answering questions, etc.)
  • Deliver instruction in accordance with current protocols specific to error correction and errorless teaching when appropriate
  • Will maintain a billable caseload as directed by supervisor

Consultative Services

  • Closely monitor client programs through direct observations and review of data
  • Coordinate and collaborate regularly with Behavior Analysts
  • Provide formal and informal training to staff, families, and/or classroom teachers
  • Program and maintain individualized alternative and augmentative communication systems

Professional Development

  • Assist with developing communication      protocols and assessments
  • Maintain CCC-SLP credential by participating      in continuing education opportunities
  • Maintain state licensure
  • Supervises graduate students, volunteers,      and clinical fellowships (as appropriate)

Position Type

This is a full-time position. This position involves working with students who exhibit challenging and/or aggressive behavior.

Requirements

  

Qualifications

  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Master's degree in Communication Disorders, Speech-Language Pathology, or related field required
  • CCC-SLP credential preferred, CF supervision available for strong candidates
  • Virginia speech-language pathology licensure or provisional licensure from the Virginia Board of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology required
  • Experience with alternative and augmentative communication and individuals with autism preferred

· Experience in the application of applied behavior analysis (ABA) preferred

· Must be able to work well as part of team
