Manager of Data and Geographic Information Services

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF WORK:

The Manager of Data and Information Services is responsible for overseeing the collection, analysis, and dissemination of data and information. This role will ensure that data-driven insights are effectively integrated into decision-making processes to enhance operational efficiency, improve service delivery, and support strategic initiatives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Lead cross-functional projects using advanced data modeling and analysis techniques to discover insights that will guide strategic decisions and uncover optimization opportunities.

Lead initiatives to innovate and standardize required reports and reporting procedures.

Oversee the data/report requests process.

Own data system maintenance in relation to capital projects, planning, and scheduling.

Design and implement a comprehensive data strategy to improve data collection, management, and usage across the organization.

Supervise and mentor a team of data analysts and information specialists, fostering a collaborative environment that encourages professional growth and innovation.

Establish and enforce data governance policies to ensure data quality, security, and compliance with relevant regulations and standards.

Collaborate with other departments to identify data optimization opportunities and develop solutions that support their objectives.

Communicate data findings and insights to stakeholders through presentations, reports, and dashboards, ensuring clarity and accessibility of information.

Oversee the implementation of data management systems and tools, ensuring they meet organizational needs and enhance operational capabilities.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in data analytics, computer science, information technologies or related fields and ten (10) years of experience in data analysis, business intelligence, or information systems with two (2) years in a supervisory role.

Experience may be substituted in lieu of education on a year-for-year basis up to four years.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s degree in related field

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., SQL, Python, R) and data visualization software (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).

Strong understanding of public transportation operations and the role of data in improving service delivery and operational efficiency.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex data concepts to non-technical audiences.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a detail-oriented approach to data management.

Ability to work collaboratively across departments and with external stakeholders.

Experience with project management methodologies and tools is a plus.

Collaborates with stakeholders to understand company goals and challenges.

Implements solutions to issues found in data analysis.

Determines business areas where data analysis can drive growth.

Develops recommendations for improvement based on analysis.

Heads presentations to communicate analytical findings.

Manages multiple projects at once.

Establishes performance measures and ensures they are met.

Analyzes demand signals to ensure proper inventory is kept.

Must be able to maintain good work attendance.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Physical ability required to be mobile, bend, stoop, stand, reach and occasionally lift objects weighing 5-25 pounds such as files, supplies, equipment and large heavy reference manuals and books.

WORK ENVIRONMENTS:

Normal office setting with occasional irregular hours.
