We have an opportunity for experienced and skilled Fiber Splicing Technicians to join our team! The ideal candidates will be responsible for the splicing of new cable, testing, repair of existing cable, troubleshooting. Regional travel required. Must be dependable, have a great driving record, and be drug free. Pay depends on level of experience and competency. Compensation includes paid lodging for travel and food per diem. All fusion and testing equipment provided.
At Viaero Fiber Networks, our Fiber Splicers plays a critical role in the deployment, maintenance, and repair of our outside plant fiber optic infrastructure. They’re responsible for splicing fiber optic cables, testing and troubleshooting fiber paths, and ensuring high-quality standards for network performance and reliability. This position requires a combination of technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in various outdoor environments.
Duties
Perform fiber optic cable splicing, testing and terminations.
Conduct fiber splicing including mass ribbon, fusion, single node, and perform testing using specialized equipment.
Troubleshoot and repair issues in fiber optic networks.
MDU / MTU fiber installations.
Select routes and fill out drop bury forms for residential / business fiber plant.
Drop burials.
Dress and route fiber into data closets and work areas.
Obtain and maintain company required tool supply.
QA / QC installs performed by peers and relay information succinctly.
Utilize hand tools for cable management and installation.
Collaborate with field service teams to ensure efficient operations.
Qualifications
Previous experience as a Fiber Splicing Technician (at least 2 years of experience splicing)
Must be at least 21 years of age, have a valid driver’s license with good driving record, and ability to pass a DOT Physical / Certification.
Must be able to pass pre-employment processes, including criminal background check, driving record check, and substance screening
Proficiency in cable prep and splice closure techniques, fiber splicing, testing & troubleshooting
Ability to use hand tools effectively and safely
General Knowledge of Microsoft OS
Use critical thinking to work through problems in a logical manner
Understanding of email clients and how to configure them
Experience in wire fishing and pulling
Ability to properly lift 80 pounds
Maintain a professional and presentable appearance
Learn and follow PPE protocols
Knowledge and ability to work with power / hand tools
Time management and organizational skills. Prompt attendance to work and scheduled job sites.
Capable of being part of a team and working closely with other team members
Safe handling of all products and preforming all assigned tasks
Accurate paperwork (time sheets, change orders, delivery tickets)
On-call rotations once trained to a competent level
Ability to effectively communicate with subscriber and organization when working advanced troubles
Understand the basics of network routing protocols
Willingness to work in adverse weather conditions
Proactive thinking and execution abilities
Results oriented and ability to manage multiple priorities
