Classification: Full-Time / Exempt Department: Accounting
Vibrant Works is a non-profit organization with revenue generating lines of business that support our mission, including manufacturing, retail, and commercial distribution, as well as mission-driven services.
JOB SUMMARY:
To lead all day-to-day accounting operations of Vibrant Works, including functional responsibility over accounting staff, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and the general ledger. The Controller will ensure that Vibrant Works has the systems and procedures in place to ensure accurate financials and compliance with applicable standards.
JOB FUNCTIONS and RESONSIBILITIES:
- Financial Management
- Oversee the day-to-day accounting operations of the organization
- Develop and implement accounting and financial policies and procedures to ensure sound fiscal management
- Identify and mitigate financial risks by implementing internal controls and best practices
- Provide analysis and insights to support decision-making processes
- Accounting and Reporting
- Prepare and analyze financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements, and ensure all reconciliations are done in a timely manner
- Generate regular financial reports for internal and external stakeholders, providing insights into the organization's financial health
- Compliance and Audit
- Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, tax regulations, and nonprofit reporting requirements
- Coordinate and facilitate external audits, working with auditors to provide necessary documentation and address any audit findings
- Team Management
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment (as demonstrated by proven track record in effective supervision and mentorship)
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and professional development opportunities for accounting team members
- Relationship-Building
- Build and maintain strong relationships with banks, donors, auditors, and other key stakeholders
- Serve as a financial liaison between the organization and external partners

Qualifications
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or a related field
- CPA and/or MBA/MPA (Master of Professional Accountancy) strongly preferred
- Not-for-profit experience strongly preferred
- Prior controller experience preferred
- Seven to ten years’ experience coordinating audit activities and managing reporting, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, and accounting for investments
SKILLS / ABILITIES:
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; experience in effectively communicating key data, including presentations to senior management, board or other outside parties
- Advanced knowledge of accounting and report software
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Experience with manufacturing/cost accounting preferred
- Experience with grants administration / accounting is a plus
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to report to workstation without assistance
- Must be able to sit for long periods of time
- Must be able to lift 5-10 pounds
- Must be able to conduct repetitive motions on a daily basis
