JOB SUMMARY:
The Vice President of Development is a strategic leader responsible for designing, implementing, and managing a comprehensive development program to ensures sustainable program growth and deepens impact by aligning resource development and outreach with Vibrant Work’s vision, values, and long-term goals. This role oversees all fundraising initiatives, including major gifts, annual giving, corporate and foundation relations, planned giving, capital campaign, and fundraising events. The VP of Development works closely with the CEO, Board of Directors, senior leadership, and development staff to cultivate a culture of philanthropy across Vibrant Works.
- Fundraising Strategy & Execution
- Develop and execute a multi-year fundraising strategy aligned with Vibrant Work’s goals and values.
- Lead and grow a diversified revenue portfolio including individual giving, institutional giving, special events, capital campaign, grants, and digital fundraising.
- Establish measurable goals, monitor performance, and adjust tactics to ensure fundraising success.
- Oversee innovative prospecting strategies using wealth screening, predictive analytics, and donor segmentation.
- Lead Philanthropic Operations for the department, developing a best-in-class donor experience.
- Donor Cultivation & Stewardship
- Build and maintain strong relationships with major donors, prospects, foundations, and corporate partners.
- Oversee donor recognition and stewardship programs to ensure high-quality donor experience.
- Lead major gifts strategy and personally manage a portfolio of high-level prospects.
- Team Leadership & Collaboration
- Supervise and mentor the development team, fostering professional growth and accountability.
- Collaborate with program, marketing, and finance teams to align messaging and impact reporting with donor expectations.
- Engage Board members in fundraising efforts and support their development-related responsibilities.
- Reporting & Compliance
- Ensure accurate tracking, reporting, and analysis of fundraising data using CRM systems and collaborating with finance and program departments.
- Oversee grant reporting requirements and compliance with donor agreements.
- Prepare regular development reports for executive leadership and the Board.
- Team Culture
- Develops and leads a high-performing fundraising team, fostering a culture of innovation, optimism, accountability, and excellence.
- Manages succession planning for fundraising leadership roles to ensure long-term talent development.
- Establishes clear KPIs and performance metrics to measure revenue growth and donor engagement success.
- Ensures a collaborative and inclusive team environment, aligning with Vibrant Works organizational values.
- Recruits, trains, retains, and cultivate the professional development of direct reports.
- Lead and manage resources (people and capital) that retain and cultivate positive, measurable success.
- Monitor progress against performance targets; implement countermeasures as needed.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree in nonprofit management, business, communications, or related field preferred.
- 10 years of progressive experience in fundraising, development, or advancement leadership roles.
- Proven track record in securing six- and seven-figure gifts.
- Proven track record in successfully executing capital campaign plan.
- Experience and understanding of community and government grant and contract proposals/ management.
- Experience in major donor cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and grant writing.
- Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) certification preferred.
Skills/Abilities:
- Experience working with boards of directors and high-level donors.
- Proficiency in CRM and fundraising software systems (e.g., Salesforce, OneCause).
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
- Strong strategic thinking, leadership, and team-building abilities.
- Exceptional project management and organizational skills.
- Highly proactive, solutions-oriented, and adaptable.
- Fluent in all Microsoft Office applications
