Summary: 

Outstanding opportunity to join Western MA premier Healthcare System. This position reports to our Chief People officer and will be a key member of the HR leadership team, and the organization leadership team. The Vice President is accountable for the effective planning, implementation and control of all compensation, employee benefits and wellness programs for Baystate Health. In addition, this position oversees HR Service Center, Employee Health Services, Leave and Disability Management, and Workforce Analytics, Planning and Development. Develops and maintains a strategic workforce plan that identifies innovative and effective recruitment, retention and workforce development tactics.

The Vice President is challenged to design a total compensation program which enables Baystate Health to attract, retain and motivate highly qualified employees who are employed in diverse positions, in various settings, within an integrated delivery system. The Vice President evaluates changes in total compensation practices in health care and in industry and incorporates these changes as appropriate into the total compensation programs of the organization.

The Vice President must also develop innovative benefit and wellness strategies to address a myriad of issues which are prevalent in today's marketplace. The overall environment for Total Compensation planning is changing at a rapid pace. A more significant emphasis is being placed on incentive plan design as well as employee financial and mental health and well-being. Organizations are developing incentive plans which focus on gain sharing, rewarding risks, and paying for performance. At the same time, organizations are moving to flexible benefits programs to be more responsive to the diverse and changing workforce. These shifts in emphasis are an integral part of the present evolution within Total Compensation design.

The incumbent works with the SVP Human Resources/ CPO, our independent Compensation Consultant and the Chair of the BH HR Committee to develop and present effective presentations on executive compensation, providers compensation, benefits and overall workforce issues. The presentation will go to the BH HR Committee and may also include presentation to the BH Board of Trustees or other Board Committees (e.g. The BH Finance Committee may receive updates on retirement and/or pension issues). The incumbent works with the CEO/President & CHRO to develop meeting agendas and ensures that decisions and meetings are properly documented. This position chairs the Retirment Advisory Committee (RAC) and the Heath Care Advisory Committee (HPAC).

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Serve as a member of, and resource to, the Human Resources Executive (HRE) Team and the Baystate Health Leadership Team (BHLT).
  • Provide effective management of the total rewards programs including compensation, benefits, wellness employee/occupational health services and leave and disability management for Baystate Health.
  • Ensure the communication and members experience modalities such as HR Service Center, Open Enrollment. Prosperity Fairs and the Employee Resource Center(s) are well prepared to support employees to enroll in programs and offerings that best meet their individual needs.
  • Design incentive plans to motivate plan participants and achieve desired outcomes.
  • Develop measurement and evaluation systems to monitor individual and group performance.
  • Support the development of agendas and presentations for BH HR Committee, BH Board (or relevant Board Committees) on Executive Compensation, Benefit and Workforce issues.
  • Develop agendas and lead the RAC and HPAC committees.
  • Develop and maintain effective EHS and disability management programs and policies.
  • Ensure that all Total Compensation and HR Services programs and practices comply with state and federal regulations.
  • Ensure effective training and communications for all Total Compensation & HR Services programs and policies.
  • Advise staff and members of management on policy issues relating to Total Compensation & HR Services.
  • Provide effective leadership in management of all areas of accountability.
  • Leads the period develop of the Strategic Workforce Plan as well as the implementation of action plans to address workforce gaps.
  • Remains active in the regional workforce and economic develop community as well as participating in state level initiates and programs.

Required Work Experience and Education: 

  • 8-10 years of progressive HR leadership experience required and a master's degree in HR or related field.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Demonstrated record of success in managing and developing compensation and benefits programs in large, complex organization

  • Proven leadership and management capabilities.
  • Excellent labor productivity knowledge including compensation practices, incentive plans, benefits programs and staffing strategies and models.
  • Knowledge of health care compensation and physician compensation practices a plus
  • Strong consultation and communication skills required.
