Pay Range: $66,560 - $87,100
Job Summary:
Reporting to the Director of Accounting, the Staff Accountant is a cross-trained position in each of the core accounting functions, including: Accounts Payable, General Ledger and Payroll. As a key resource assigned to projects, the Staff Accountant helps drive changes in accounting processes that improve efficiency and result in cost savings for the agency.
DAILY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Under the direction of the Director of Accounting, provides support to projects focused on improving accounting processes. Examples include: employee mileage reporting and expense reimbursement, implementation of document management software by program sites, and integration of accounting processes for affiliated entities.
- Prepares and reviews journal entries, and reconciles general ledger accounts as assigned, in coordination with the Accounting Supervisor and General Ledger Staff Accountants.
- As part of cross training in the core accounting functions, reviews and provides updates to be incorporated into standard operating procedures (SOP) documents.
- As assigned, covers during staffing vacancies or as the need arises for Accounts Payable, General Ledger or Payroll. Cross trained in all programs and lines of business related to fiscal team duties.
- Assists with audits, internal and external, as needed.
- Assists with the implementation of fiscal systems and integration with other agency software.
- Assists with tasks and projects as assigned, including the start-up or transition of accounting activities for new sites or sites undergoing changes in bookkeeper staffing, or other fiscal team duties as needed.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Associate degree in Accounting from an accredited college and two years of accounting experience OR four years of accounting experience.
- Must have the ability to work effectively across multiple locations and divisions in a collaborative manner.
- Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and excellent listening and problem solving skills.
- Must have strong knowledge and skills in the use of PC hardware and software for business and fiscal operations.
- Must have the ability to work collaboratively with a broad range of managers and leaders.
- Must be physically and mentally fit in accordance with the Agency's Personnel Policy; Physical Fitness Standards and Examinations and must be willing to complete a Tuberculosis (TB) and drug screening test.
- Must possess a valid California driver's license, personal automobile insurance and driving record that meets the standards outlined in the Agency's Personnel Policy; Motor Vehicle Operating Standards.
