10-Month Tenure Track Position 

 

COMPENSATION: Initial salary placement ranges from $67,886 to $106,308 based upon education and experience. The current faculty salary schedule includes five classes and twenty steps with a maximum annual salary of $142,425.

Representative Duties

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

 

• Participating in assessment, evaluation, and planning of Student Learning Outcomes and Program Learning Outcomes, Program Review, Curriculum Development

 

• Create a learning environment that fosters student success, using different teaching modalities.

• Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student population.

• Teach in accordance with departmental course outlines and design instructional activities to promote student success.

• Collaborate with colleagues in program and curriculum development and participate in other departmental meetings and projects.

• Teach scheduled classes on-campus and in-person and perform related duties as assigned.

• Serve on academic senate and shared governance committees as necessary to support and enrich instructional programs.

• Promote the success of a diverse student population through careful preparation of course materials and effective teaching methodologies.

• Comply with district policies and procedures in the performance of all duties by timely compliance with clerical and administrative responsibilities including holding weekly office hours and being available to assist students as required.

 

• Instructing Restaurant Management students in the basics of professional cooking /food service sanitation and preparation of elaborate catered events.

 

• Instructing students in a laboratory environment serving faculty and staff.

 

• Organizing, managing, teaching and supervising students in the running of the restaurant management operations.

 

• Instructing students on restaurant management skills.

 

• Instruction may include day, evening, and weekend classes.

 

• Teaching scheduled classes and performing related duties as assigned, including timely compliance with clerical and administrative responsibilities.

 

• Participating in staff development activities.

 

• Serving on area and college-wide committees as necessary to support and enrich the instructional program.

 

• Demonstrating sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of students and colleagues.

 

• Promoting the success of a diverse student population through careful preparation of course materials and effective teaching methodologies.

 

• Maintaining a visible presence on campus in order to be available to regularly and actively participate in department meetings and other activities.

 

• Providing critical feedback on all assignments.

 

• Participating in assessment, evaluation, and planning of Student Learning Outcomes and Program Learning Outcomes, Program Review, Curriculum Development.

 

Requirements

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Any bachelor's degree and two (2) years of professional experience, or any associate degree and six (6) years of professional experience OR the equivalent.

 

• Must have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

• Demonstrated successful restaurant management and/or food service experience in an academic setting.

 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

 

• Valid ServSafe Certification by the National Restaurant Management Association.

Knowledge and Abilities

 

KNOWLEDGE:

 

• Knowledge of professional cooking skills and techniques used within industry

• Knowledge of food service sanitation and safety skills as they pertain to personal hygiene, food handling and county standards.

• Knowledge of receiving, processing and safe handling with industry standards of food products from food products of various vendors'

• Knowledge of operating procedures and industry standards for both front-of-house and back-of-house areas.

• Knowledge of skills and techniques needed to complete elaborate catered events for 400 attendees.

 

ABILITIES:

 

• Ability to participate in staff development and activities.

• Ability to foster department growth through outreach.

• Ability to instruct students in the foundational and advanced industry skills in areas of professional cooking.

• Ability to instruct students in the foundational and advanced industry skills in areas of customer service.

• Ability to instruct students in basic cuisine knowledge from many cultures.

• Ability organize, manage, teach and supervise students in the duties of both a front-of-house and back-of-house manager.

 

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Office, classroom, lab and/or on-line environment. Position requires ability to communicate and exchange information. The assignment may include day, weekend, and/or evening classes on campus and/or at off campus locations. Position requires ability and schedule flexibility to accommodate active participation in College and Department Outreach Events such as College and Career Fairs and College and Community Presentations.
