BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Superintendent or designee, the Director of Technology provides strategic leadership in the planning, implementation, and management of the district’s technology systems. This role oversees IT infrastructure, department staffing, cybersecurity, data governance, and the integration of educational technology (EdTech) to support digital learning initiatives. The Director plays a critical role in state data reporting requirements, including ensuring accuracy and compliance with CALPADS (California Longitudinal Pupil Achievement Data System). Additionally, the position supports state-mandated testing, facilitates compliance with state regulations, and ensures the efficient administration of assessments. The Director of Technology collaborates with school leaders, educators, and district staff to enhance teaching and learning through effective use of technology and data-driven insights, ensuring that technology aligns with the district’s instructional and operational goals.
Minimum Qualifications Required to Apply
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of 5 years of experience in technology management, preferably within an educational setting.
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Educational Technology, Computer Science, Educational Administration, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Proven leadership experience with strategic planning, project management, school technology best practices, state data reporting, SIS administration, and data analytics in a school district or similar environment.
- Experience with data reporting and analytics in a school setting.
- Experience with state data reporting platforms such as CALPADS, CBEDS, and other state-mandated reporting systems.
- Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks and best practices.
- Knowledge of state and federal regulations related to educational technology, data privacy, testing compliance, and data reporting.
- Previous experience coordinating state assessments or educational testing programs.
Essential Duties
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:Incumbents in the classification may not perform all of these tasks or may perform similar related tasks not listed here.
Develop and execute a comprehensive technology vision and strategic plan aligned with the district’s educational goals. Facilitate effective communication between IT, administrative teams, and educational staff.EOversee the acquisition, deployment, maintenance, and security of network systems, hardware, and software. Evaluate emerging technologies to enhance digital learning environments.E
- Manage technology budgets, purchasing, and vendor relationships to ensure cost-effective solutions. E
- Oversee the management, maintenance, and administration of the district’s Student Information System (SIS) and related applications. Ensure data accuracy, security, and integrity within the SIS, including student enrollment, attendance, grades, and assessment data.
- Provide training and support to staff on the effective use of SIS and educational-related applications. E
- Manage State data reporting requirements, including CALPADS, ensuring data accuracy, compliance, and timely submission. Serve as the primary contact for state data audits and reporting inquiries. Stay informed on changes in state reporting requirements and provide training to relevant staff members. E
- Serve as district leadership in state testing, ensuring all state-mandated assessments are administered efficiently and in compliance with state guidelines. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of state testing requirements and communicate updates to relevant stakeholders. Coordinate testing schedules, logistics, and resources across all school sites. E
- Lead cloud-based technology initiatives, including the deployment and administration of Google Workspace and other SaaS platforms. Ensure effective integration of cloud-based tools with SIS, LMS, and other district systems. Support professional development initiatives to enhance staff proficiency with cloud-based productivity and collaboration tools. E
- Ensure robust cybersecurity measures are in place, including following all best practices and cybersecurity guidelines. Establish policies and procedures for data security and privacy in compliance with federal and state regulations (e.g., FERPA, CIPA). Conduct regular security audits and training programs to educate staff and students on cybersecurity best practices. E
- Supervise and support technology staff, including IT specialists and support personnel. E
- Represent the district at technology consortia, conferences, and community events.
- Participate in Technology Grant application and development committees. Ensure coordinated effort with other technology projects and grants.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities / Working Conditions
KNOWLEDGE OF:
- Strong understanding of IT infrastructure, network security, and educational technology integration.
- Experience with Cloud-based Student Information Systems (SIS), Learning Management Systems (LMS), and digital testing platforms.
- Familiarity with state data reporting systems, particularly CALPADS, and state testing requirements.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and team-building skills.
- Ability to analyze complex problems and develop strategic solutions.
