This role oversees IT infrastructure, department staffing, cybersecurity, data governance, and the integration of educational technology (EdTech) to support digital learning initiatives. The Director plays a critical role in state data reporting requirements, including ensuring accuracy and compliance with CALPADS (California Longitudinal Pupil Achievement Data System). Additionally, the position supports state-mandated testing, facilitates compliance with state regulations, and ensures the efficient administration of assessments. The Director of Technology collaborates with school leaders, educators, and district staff to enhance teaching and learning through effective use of technology and data-driven insights, ensuring that technology aligns with the district’s instructional and operational goals.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Licensed to drive a motor vehicle in the State of California and eligible for insurance under the District insurance carrier in the operation of District vehicles.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to satisfactorily perform the essential duties and responsibilities.Minimum of 5 years of experience in technology management, preferably within an educational setting.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Educational Technology, Computer Science, Educational Administration, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).Proven leadership experience with strategic planning, project management, school technology best practices, state data reporting, SIS administration, and data analytics in a school district or similar environment.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience with data reporting and analytics in a school setting. Experience with state data reporting platforms such as CALPADS, CBEDS, and other state-mandated reporting systems.Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks and best practices. Knowledge of state and federal regulations related to educational technology, data privacy, testing compliance, and data reporting.Previous experience coordinating state assessments or educational testing programs.

KNOWLEDGE OF: Strong understanding of IT infrastructure, network security, and educational technology integration.Experience with Cloud-based Student Information Systems (SIS), Learning Management Systems (LMS), and digital testing platforms.Familiarity with state data reporting systems, particularly CALPADS, and state testing requirements.Excellent communication, leadership, and team-building skills.Ability to analyze complex problems and develop strategic solutions.ABILITY TO: Plan, organize, and direct the District's information processing operations.Direct the development and implementation of new and revised systems and programs to accomplish the District's information processing needs.Direct and schedule the training and documentation for new applications used within the District.Perform technical evaluation and acquisition of new hardware and software.Apply principles and techniques of computer programming to specific user needs and problems.Apply and explain the State Education Code and other rules related to the collection and processing of District and student data.Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Train, supervise, and evaluate personnel. Maintain records and prepare reports.
