What are the responsibilities and job description for the Gear Up Instructor (NEW) position at Victoria College?
Position Summary
The Gear Up Partnership Division is hiring a Part Time Gear Up Instructor. The Gear Up Instructor is responsible for teaching 7th-grade students at the GEAR UP Afterschool Camp from May 12 to May 23, 2025, at Patti Welder Middle School and/or STEM Middle School. Courses taught will require secondary certification in one of the following subjects: English, math, or science.
This is a grant funded position with the Department of Education.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Prepare one or more two-hour content area lessons in English, math, and/or science that are highly engaging to meet the needs of all learners.
- Teach content area lesson(s) and utilize listening and questioning strategies to keep learners focused on program activities.
- Create a professional and welcoming environment by modeling respect for all students.
- Maintain a positive attitude and provide positive feedback.
- Perform other duties as assigned by GEAR UP staff.
- Follow all FERPA guidelines for the handling of student records.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and secondary certification in English, math, and/or science is required.
- A professional reference letter is required.
- Knowledge of basic computer skills is required.
- Experience working with diverse populations is preferred.
Physical Demands
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle controls, keypads, etc.
- Will be required to sit and reach with hands and arms as well as sit, stand, and walk.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, some color vision, and the ability to adjust focus from documents to computer screen.
- Hearing of light to moderate sound is required by this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
