What are the responsibilities and job description for the Skilled Trades Apprentice, Painter position at Victoria ISD?
Primary Purpose:
Under general supervision, assist journeyman painters to complete paint work orders or any other work order assigned to the paint department.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Valid Texas driver's license.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Physically fit with good manual dexterity, eye-hand coordination and good sense of balance. Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
Working knowledge of hand tools, power tools and safety equipment.
Good human relation skills and the ability to work well with others.
Experience:
Prior experience as apprentice painter is desirable.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Facilities Maintenance and Repair
1. Assist journeyman painters in the painting of facilities and, any other work orders assigned to the paint department.
2. Sweep and clean paint shop and or work area as instructed.
3. Organize materials as instructed.
4. Abide by all safety rules posted in paint shop.
Safety
5. Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
6. Follow safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, use of electrical tools, etc.
Other
7. Work irregular hours and respond to after-hour emergency calls as needed.
8. Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities: None.
Equipment Used:
Brush, roller, striping machine, taping and masking equipment, spray equipment, sand and water blasting, air compressor, dry wall tools and equipment, hand tools, ladder, scaffolding, sanders, measuring devices, and light truck or van.

Frequent walking, standing, climbing, stooping, kneeling and reaching, heavy lifting and carrying; work in tiring and uncomfortable position; outside and inside; on slippery or uneven walking surfaces, ladders, and scaffolding; and around machinery with moving parts; exposure to hot and cold temperatures, excessive noises, fumes, and toxic chemicals. Frequent district wide travel.
