- Key Responsibilities:
- Assist residents with activities of daily living, such as toileting, ambulation, eating, transferring, bathing, dressing, personal hygiene, etc., according to their individual care plan.
- Dress residents appropriately when in living areas or outside the building.
- Teach and assist residents with self-help skills to maximize independence and freedom of movement.
- Perform all personal care tasks, including basic and special health-related tasks, as approved by doctors' orders and signed off by an RN.
- Provide personal assistance as needed, requested, or required.
- Respond to hand bell or other signaling calls.
- Assist residents with transportation when indicated by the ED/Administrator.
- Carry out planned activities with the Activities Coordinator.
- Keep residents' clothes in proper order.
- Make beds for residents who are unable to do so.
- Provide residents with clean towels and washcloths as needed.
- Use, empty, and clean resident equipment, such as urinals, bedside commodes, bed pans, wash basins, shower chairs, etc.
- Assist residents at mealtime and provide snacks as needed.
- Orient new residents admitted to the home.
- Notify the ED/Administrator, RCC, or SIC when there is a need for medical attention or any change in resident status.
- Apply rules and regulations pertaining to the use of restraints as ordered by physicians in writing.
- Report any accidents or incidents to the ED/Administrator, RCC, or SIC.
- Maintain the self-respect, personal dignity, and physical safety of each resident.
- Work cooperatively with all staff and relate favorably to residents, their families, and visitors.
- Be familiar with confidentiality of resident information and adhere to requirements.
- Familiarize yourself with adult care home accident, fire safety, OSHA, and emergency procedures.
- Familiarize yourself with the Adult Care Home Residents' Bill of Rights and assist residents in exercising their rights.
- Treat adult care home equipment and supplies with care and utilize them accordingly.
- Read and adhere to all adult care home and employee policies.
- Participate in job-related continuing education as required by the ED/Administrator.
- Perform other related duties as assigned in accordance with licensing rules and the home's administrative policies and procedures.
- Maintain accurate and detailed documentation as required in resident services.
Qualifications:
- C.N.A or Personal Care Aide Certificate (80-Hour) with Personal Care Aide Training within 6-Months of hire.
- Ability to read, write, understand, and follow directions.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying a minimum of 50 pounds.
- Bending, stooping, squatting, and reaching overhead as needed.
- At least 18 years old.
- No substantiated findings on the NC Personnel Registry or Health Care Program during employment.
- Clear SBI record and maintain during period of employment.
- Two-step tuberculin skin test (first test prior to hire and second test within two weeks of first test).
