SUMMARY
The Camp Victory Summer Nurse are team members of Camp Victory for summer programs. Camp Victory is located in Mannford, Oklahoma and is a place where campers have the opportunity to pull out of their everyday lives, put away any distractions, and experience God’s presence unencumbered. The Camp Nurse is responsible for managing the camp’s health and safety program, providing medical treatment to campers and staff when necessary, administering medication to campers, complying with all required documentation, and acting as a health educator for campers and staff. A primary function at Camp Victory is to ensure that each member, guest and visitor receives the highest caliber of health and safety service and experiences the love of Jesus.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee the preseason set-up and the postseason closing of Camp Victory Health Center and all duties related to overseeing the health and wellness of Campers and Staff at Camp Victory.
- Utilize, maintain and input all data related to camper’s health or nurse duties into Camp Victory software to keep records up to date on a daily basis.
- Maintains the Camp Victory Health Center including an opening/closing inventory of all supplies and equipment and ordering supplies/equipment as needed and approved, in addition to, keeping a clean and sanitized health center at all times.
- Assesses and assists with the health and hygiene needs of campers.
- Administers medication and treatment to campers throughout their stay at camp.
- Identify pertinent camper medical needs (caution sheets, special diets, etc.) and ensure this information is communicated with the appropriate camp staff and parents using confidentiality standards.
- Provide for proper nursing intervention regarding camper and/or staff illness, condition, or emergency care and makes appropriate referrals and provides for follow up care as warranted.
- Administer immediate first aid to injured parties, performs nursing assessments and implements nursing intervention as guided by nursing judgment.
- Maintain and secure confidentiality records regarding administration of medication, prescribed treatments, and other health and medical needs following state and Victory’s standards in maintaining health records.
- Responds to camp incidents/accidents, report them immediately to the Camp Director and follow-up with incident report and other necessary reporting procedures.
- Report suspected child abuse to the appropriate authorities and Camp Director immediately while following Oklahoma Mandated Reporting Standards and Victory’s Child Abuse and Neglect Awareness Training guidelines.
- Communicate specific camper health needs (allergies, special diets, medications and health concerns) to Camp Director and staff based upon camper needs and parent’s authorization.
- Make an emergency decision to call ambulance or emergency medical care if needed.
- Make rounds throughout the camp checking on campers, staff and the health and safety of the camp in general.
- Report facility and grounds health risk factors including assisting to keep up to date protocol with CDC guidelines.
QUALIFICATIONS
- LPN or RN degree (licensed in the State of Oklahoma).
- Flexible – able to adapt to different environments and schedules.
- Acceptance and understanding of the necessity to reside at camp for duration of the camp season, which is overnight, and must be available 24-7 to respond to incidents/emergencies.
- Excellent computer skills and the ability to maintain medical information on iPad or computer program.
- Responsible, hard-working.
- Good bedside manner, friendly and personable and demonstrates sensitivity to the needs of campers.
- Strong assessment abilities.
- Ability to work in a team environment; contribute as a team member and treat co-workers, subordinates and customers with respect.
- Ability to motivate children and maintain a positive atmosphere
- Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to provide a supportive and caring environment for children and families.

- Physical exertion such as standing, bending, stooping, crouching, lifting and reaching; and walk a short to long distances on moderately to extreme steep terrain without difficulty.
- Lift and carry up to 25 pounds and in case of emergency a 40-pound child;
- Ability to fully perform physical, mental and emotional functions necessary for this position.
- Can communicate effectively with people of all ages.
- Ability to work time outdoors in extreme heat for majority of the time and occasionally an indoor in a climate-controlled building.
- Willingness to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours with limited or simple equipment and facilities; and with daily exposure to the sun, heat, and animals such as bugs, snakes, etc.
