WHAT WE ARE SEEKING
The best candidates for this position will embody the values and beliefs at the heart of the VCP mission and vision.
They will also meet the following qualifications and possess these preferred skills :
Bachelor’s degree
Valid Teacher License (or interest in a licensure program)
5 years teaching, social work, or counseling, behavioral intervention experience with a proven track record of raising student achievement scores
Experience coaching and providing professional development to adults
Knowledge of education law and regulations with specific knowledge of special education and Response to Intervention
Competency in using technology in the classroom setting
Ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis
Strong desire to work within an innovative, urban educational program
WHAT THIS ROLE WILL ACCOMPLISH
Design and implement a systematic approach to managing and intervening on student discipline issues based on restorative discipline practices and the VCP Student Handbook.
Use data to reflect on effectiveness to improve interventions and personal practice.
Assist in building a strong school culture of achievement and respect based on restorative discipline practices and the VCP Student Handbook.
Facilitate grade-level Town Hall meetings; assist in the implementation of Character Education Program, perform character education lessons in classrooms, design other elements of culture-specific to the school site.
Provide coaching and professional development on classroom management, classroom culture, and addressing behavior in the classroom.
Develop a collection of resources around the culture to be shared with staff, meet with teachers and staff about school and classroom culture issues;
Work collaboratively with principals and assistant principals to address instructional practices that relate to classroom culture impacting student achievement.
Manage student discipline referrals and identify patterns and inform interventions and process behavioral incidents with students and teachers and parents.
Serve as liaison between parents, staff, and students when managing student discipline issues and intervention plans.
Work with families in understanding the mission of VCP to promote 95% retention of the student population.
Consult with other professional staff, outside agencies, and other organizations to improve VCP restorative discipline practices.
Collaborate with colleagues in school-wide meetings and professional development days to advance the overall goals and mission of the school.
Access meaningful learning experiences through current theory, research, and developments in relevant academic disciplines, professional development opportunities, and ideas from colleagues and supervisor
Reflect critically upon teaching experience; identify areas for further professional development and access meaningful learning experiences.
Perform other duties related to this position, including the physical demands of light to moderate bending and lifting, climbing stairs, and standing intermittently throughout the day.
