Description
Relief Staff are responsible for maintaining a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment for all clients in Victory Programs’ residential shelters, low threshold transitional and permanent housing programs, and recovery homes. We are currently seeking talented staff who are passionate about working with individuals and families experiencing homelessness and substance use disorder. The ideal candidate for this position is reliable, dependable, has a calm demeanor and is able to think on their feet, as well as demonstrate excellent communication and customer service skills.
The Relief Staff position is an “on call, as needed” position. Relief Staff are expected to work at least 24 hours per month contingent on program needs and must be able to attend mandatory training and/or meetings. The Relief Staff reports to the Relief Program Coordinator for support and supervision.

All Relief who have been here for 90 days must sign up for a minimum of 24 hours or more by the 15th of every month. If you have not signed up for 24 hours by the 15th you will be assigned the remaining hours by the Relief Coordinator. All shifts will be assigned based on your availability.

These figures adjust based on full time or part time status and allocated vacation time increases with length of employment.

Essential Functions
- Act in accordance with Victory Programs, Inc.’s Standards of Excellence & Philosophy Care at all times including maintaining professional ethics, boundaries and client confidentiality.
- Provide supportive and empathic presence to all clients, and be available for recovery support.
- Enforce all policies and procedures related to maintaining a safe and appropriate residential environment; while promoting a healthy, supportive, inclusive community.
- Engage in relationship building, Nonviolent Crisis Intervention, motivational interviewing and conflict de-escalation as needed in the milieu space.
- Ensure the well-being of all residents.
- Ensure that when clients take medication, all policies and procedures are followed for assisting and monitoring the clients’ self-administration of medication.
- Responsible for medication documentation, including: counting controlled medication, documenting incoming medication and medication removal, signing off on medication as it is taken by the clients.
- Conduct safety, security and wellness rounds/checks to ensure the well-being of all residents.
- Ensure that the residence is maintained in a state of good repair, orderliness and is free from hazards.
- Assure that fire safety standards are met at all times.
- Provide milieu coverage, including: maintaining and assessing the integrity of the program’s therapeutic milieu, empowering clients to act in accordance with guidelines in the program; conduct rounds; answer phones and front door; monitor the desk; and other duties as assigned.
- Support with inventory of client belongings.
- Accurately document observations, encounters, and engagements with clients during your shift.
- Attend supervision, staff meetings, and periodic professional development training and workshops as requested by the supervisor.
- High School Diploma or equivalency.
- Knowledge of Google Suite
- Ability to work independently and cooperatively as a member of a team.
- Ability to relate to residents in an instructive, firm and compassionate manner.
- CPR and First Aid Certification (may be obtained upon hire).
- Completed TB Assessment (may be obtained upon hire).
- Three work related professional references; at least 2 from manager or supervisor.
- Experience in the field of addiction or mental health.
- Knowledge of the addiction recovery process or willingness to acquire it within the first six months of employment.
- Bi-lingual preferred (Spanish or Haitian Creole).
