Brief description
The Evening Dorm Staff position is one of the many positions at Victory Village Christian Academy that is vital in teaching, training, and raising our students into responsible and respectable young women. The Evening Dorm Staff position oversees and handles all tasks involved after students return from school until they go to bed. The Evening Dorm Staff position is very much like a mother and is treated as such at Victory Village Christian Academy.
Tasks
- Oversee student evening routine: set out snack after school, ensure students daily chores were completed, prepare dinner, monitor clean up of dinner, assist with homework, monitor job chores, administer evening medication, supervise bed time routines (hygiene, etc.), and ensure all students are tucked in for the night;
- All students have chores that are expected of them to complete. It is the responsibility of Evening Dorm Staff to teach and training the students on how to do these chores appropriately and then to ensure that they are done to those taught standards;
- Monitor student who have electronic devices, check out/in times, reporting any concerns and talking with students about safe social networking and internet practices;
- Ensure order and discipline within the dormitory/home by continuously monitoring activities, down time, and the evening meal;
- Prepare and serve the evening meal;
- Oversee evening meal clean up by organizing and assisting students in their responsibilities;
- Work in conjunction with the Dorm Director on preparing and organizing evening on and off campus activities;
- Search the belongings and person of any students who arrives back on campus after shopping, home visits, or any other outing where searching is deemed necessary;
- Be available to students throughout the evening to address situations, administer aid, and build relationships;
- Ensure that the dormitory/home is kept neat and orderly: all students belongings are picked up and all supplies used through a shift are cleaned up and appropriately put away;
- Transport students to any off-site activities, stay with students and transport back;
- Model healthy examples for the students in dress, relationships, and conduct;
- Train the students in healthy lifestyles: eating, hygiene, relationships, coping skills, hobbies, academics, discipline, etc.
- Discipline the students when appropriate as a means for training;
- Write an End of Shift Report to all appropriate staff summarizing the necessary events of a shift to best prepare the following shift;
- Meet with the Dorm Director and/or Training & Development Director for regular training on all procedures and policies so as to stay current on all practices practiced at Victory Village Christian Academy.
Qualifications and requirements
- A High School Diploma or equivalent, higher education is desired;
- Ability to give full attention to what other people are saying, to motivate, develop, and direct people as they work, and identify the best tools for success;
- Ability to be aware of others’ reactions and understanding why they react as they do, to use logic and reason to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, and to bring others together and trying to reconcile differences.
- Ability to identify complex problems, evaluate options, and implement solutions;
- Ability to effectively negotiate, handle oneself professionally and maturely, and appeal appropriately to authority when in disagreement;
- Knowledge of the English language and the ability to formulate compressive notes in digital and hard copy format.

- A good work ethic and dependable character;

Lines of communication
- The Evening Dorm Staff Position reports directly to the Dorm Director. All lines of communication should first be through the Dorm Director.
Working conditions
- The Evening Dorm Staff position is a hourly position, starting at $11/hour.
- Work days may vary from week to week and are left at the liberty of the Dorm Director.
- The Evening Dorm Staff position is a year round position, potentially including Holidays, but only at the discretion of the Dorm Director.
- Evening Dorm Staff are expected to arrive well in advance of their scheduled hours of work or meeting times. If there is a reason why they should be late or cannot cover a scheduled shift, the Evening Dorm Staff are to communicate well in advance with the Dorm Director and secure a replacement for their shift.
