A Chief Medical Officer (CMO) at a Series A biotech company would be responsible for overseeing all clinical aspects of the company's drug development, including study design, execution, regulatory compliance, and stakeholder engagement, while playing a key role in shaping the company's medical strategy, particularly in the early stages of clinical trials and product development, reporting directly to the CEO and working closely with the scientific team to guide the company's clinical direction.

Key Responsibilities :
- Clinical Development Strategy :
- Lead the development of clinical trial protocols, including study design, patient population selection, and endpoints for Phase I / II clinical trials.
- Evaluate the clinical viability of drug candidates, considering potential safety and efficacy concerns.
- Collaborate with the scientific team to identify appropriate biomarkers and clinical trial metrics.
- Regulatory Compliance :
- Ensure clinical trials adhere to all relevant regulatory standards and guidelines (FDA, EMA).
- Manage interactions with regulatory agencies regarding clinical trial submissions and approvals.
- Medical Expertise :
- Provide medical expertise on the therapeutic area, disease state, and potential treatment approaches.
- Interpret clinical data and present findings to internal and external stakeholders.
- Stakeholder Management :
- Build relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs) and clinical investigators to facilitate patient recruitment and clinical trial execution.
- Collaborate with patient advocacy groups to understand patient needs and perspectives.
- Team Leadership :
- Lead and manage a small clinical team, including clinical research associates (CRAs) and clinical study coordinators.
- Oversee the recruitment and development of clinical trial staff.
- Business Development :
- Contribute to the development of the company's clinical strategy and market positioning.
- Participate in investor presentations and discussions regarding clinical development plans.
