What are the responsibilities and job description for the Direct Support Professional (DSP) position at Vidal Care Residency?
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides essential support and care for individuals with disabilities in a group home setting. DSPs are responsible for demonstrating compassion, providing support to residents, and maintaining a safe environment. They promote independence and personal choice by assisting individuals in developing essential skills, such as social interactions and interpersonal abilities, enabling them to achieve greater self-reliance in their daily lives. They will work as part of a dedicated team to enhance the quality of life for residents through compassionate care and individualized support.
DSP responsibilities:
- Administer medication(s) according to guidelines
- Aid in implementing treatments, training programs, and developmental/behavioral plans
- Encourage community participation
- Cook/assist with meals
- Assist clients with daily living skills
- Document all observations and daily progress notes
- Communicate effectively with team members
- Assist individuals in performing their cleaning responsibilities
- Transport and accompany individuals to appointments, outings, and shopping as needed
- Promote residents’ independence and community involvement by encouraging participation in activities, skill-building, and social interactions.
Requirements and skills:
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Must be able to bend, stoop, push, pull, reach, sit and walk for periods of time
- Successful clearance of background checks
- Basic computer skills
- CPR/First Aid training (Mandatory)
- High school diploma or equivalent
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $12.00 - $18.00 per hour
