Probiotic and Herbal Formulation ScientistReports To Director of FormulationSalary Range $50,000 - $65,000/yearStatus: Full-time, In officeJob Overview: This individual formulates various delivery formats and analyzes (microbiology) by working in collaboration with the internal group, study institutions, and universities etc. Primary responsibilities include setting up the Formulation R&D, microbiology lab and setting up appropriate instruments, equipment and carrying out experiments based on the requirement. Probiotic enumeration testing will be the primary area of focus in the microbiology lab. The individual will also play a crucial role in plant equipment and process flow layout.Duties/Responsibilities
Microbioloy Research

• Assist with setting up the micro-R&D lab with the list of equipment.
• Perform Probiotic enumeration testing on regular basis.
• Design & review micro and analytical protocols and aid protocol development for R & D development.
• Employ micro method development for probiotic strains & blends in various finished formats. (Tablets, Capsule, stick packs etc.)
• Communicate results to supervisor and relevant team members.
• Document results in lab notebooks and update corresponding spreadsheets.
• Perform basic laboratory tasks and experimental work as directed by immediate supervisor.
• Maintain knowledge on various research methods and perform all manual operations on various supplies.
• Maintain purchase orders for all laboratory processes and monitor inventory.

Formulation

• Develop formulation R&D set up and list of equipment to be ordered.
• Conduct stability study design & data generation, per ICH guidelines, for both herbal and probiotic formulations
• Flavor and sensory development for the probiotic strains and herbal
• Conduct compatibility studies between probiotic and herbal
• Formulation, design, & analysis of dietary supplements, stabilizing them, and optimizing the process.
• Formula design for liquids, powders, capsules, tablets etc.
• Formulation for clinical studies
• Order excipients & flavors for formulation and generate a supplier qualification program with QA
• Provide technical assistance to plant in terms of trouble shooting and daily maintenance.
• Prepare articles and publications using the data from outcome of the study.

Qualifications * Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Strong project management skills
• Proven record in training employees about safety and production
• Strong working knowledge of Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations, as well as CRF 21 Part 111 (FDA)
• Prior experience with food or dietary supplement particularly in microbiology is preferred.

Education and Experience

• Associate degree from an accredited college or university in microbiology, biology, or related field
• 1-2 years’ experience in a microbiology laboratory, with specialization in environmental microbiology
• Knowledge of laboratory techniques and equipment
• Knowledge of microbiology principles and practices
• Knowledge of environmental health and safety laws

• Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds at times.
