About this role :
The non-metallics engineer will assist in the preparation, execution, and qualification of a wide variety of laboratory tests, focused primarily on the properties and performance of plastic, non-metallic and coating materials. The individual will maintain evaluation schedules and assist in monitoring samples in test, including defining requirements and methodologies for evaluation. Specific methodologies will be utilized to provide analytical measurement of materials under a wide variety of conditions. Analysis of produced data and generation of concise and clear presentations will be required. The individual will assist in the implementation of the initial test setup, procedures, controls, and potential automation.
Key Responsibilities :
- Coordinate with engineers and internal global customers on sample timing, preparation, and experiment initiation.
- Communicate to management and internal global customers on plans, risks, and results, through both written and verbal channels.
- Balance workload (support multiple projects, lead a few projects). Propose priorities and readily shift activities to maximize impact.
- Organize test documents and provide reports to engineers or other internal global customers.
- Clearly articulate the value of work conducted; proactively mitigate schedule risks and implement improvements.
- Conduct additional sample preparation, including metallography, microscopy, and mechanical testing of samples as needed.
- Assist in continuous improvement efforts to increase test reliability and acceleration.
- Develop processes and automation to reduce manpower requirements and improve consistency of testing.
- Understand and work with material specifications, which include technical requirements and supplier capabilities. These specifications are used for various materials such as metals, elastomers, gaskets, seals, oils, lubricants, refrigerants, and paints. They facilitate product quality by capturing technical requirements concisely and consistently.
- Leverage existing materials database to data-mine previous reports to minimize sample testing requirements.
- Maintain a safe working environment, following all procedures and PPE requirements.
- Demonstrate the ability to self-motivate and work without constant direct supervision.
- Maintain an acceptable attendance, performance, and discipline record.
