Viewpoint School is currently seeking an Assistant Head of Lower School. The Assistant Head of Lower School provides direct support to the Head of Lower School in matters of curriculum development, scheduling, communication, school-year planning, and counseling and supporting students, parents, and faculty.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Creates and implements educational initiatives, including but not limited to Lower School curriculum development and academic programming, in collaboration with the Head of Lower School.
- Creates and coordinates divisional school-year calendar and teaching schedules with the Head of Lower School.
- Collaborates on the development of student-led presentations with faculty and serves as the lead coordinator of all Lower School assemblies.
- Helps to provide written and verbal feedback to Lower School faculty while supporting the growth and development of teaching faculty and Assistant Teachers.
- Directly supervises and supports the development of Assistant Teachers.
- Creates and/or collaborates on internal and external communication, including report cards and communication to faculty and families, in coordination with Head of Lower School.
- Helps to lead and implement the character program, along with social-emotional wellness initiatives.
- Oversees morning and afternoon carpools; creates morning and afternoon carpool schedules for LS faculty, in collaboration with Head of Lower School.
- Coordinates field trip request process, assignment, and supervision, as well as attends and supervises field trips in coordination with the Head of Lower School.
- Provides regular support to and leadership of Student Action Committee.
- Schedules and coordinates standardized testing within the LS division.
- Serves as the Lower School lead coordinator of curriculum-mapping.
- Schedules substitute coverage for faculty within the division, in collaboration with Head of Lower School.
Collaboration:
- Coordinates individual, small group, and whole class learning initiatives, along with curriculum, with Learning Specialist and Math Specialist.
- Collaborates with Assistant Heads across divisions, most importantly with the Assistant Head of Primary School and Assistant Head of Middle School.
- Works closely with the Assistant Head of Primary School to plan and coordinate elementary school initiatives and activities.
- Works closely with Assistant Head of Middle School to continually improve the Fifth Grade transition to Middle School.
- Participates in the Primary and Lower School Curriculum Committee, as well as Education Council.
- Provides direction and oversight of technology use within the division in collaboration with the Director of Information Technology and Assistant Head of School for Learning and Innovation.
- Actively participates in Admissions events and activities related to enrollment of students in the Lower School.
Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Required:
- Master’s degree or post graduate work in subject matter and/or educational administration.
- A minimum of 10 years teaching experience, plus preferred administration experience in an independent school environment, specifically in an elementary school setting.
- Must demonstrate competency with Google Drive, Google Classroom, education software and applications, spreadsheets, databases, internet and computer functions.
- Ability to communicate effectively with all constituents in a school environment.
- Position requires adaptability, analyzing, assessing, calculating, decision making, dependability, good judgment, reading, memorizing, social skills, speaking, multitasking, and writing.
- In addition to the position described above, you agree to perform other duties and responsibilities as shall be assigned by Head of School or other supervisor.
Compensation: Anticipated base compensation is $115,000-$125,000 depending on experience.
