Description
Incumbent serves as Deputy/Plat Mapping for the Vigo County Auditor’s Office Plat Mapping department, responsible for transferring property according to legal descriptions.
Examples of Duties
  • Answers telephone and greets office visitors, providing information, assistance, and direction, and/or taking and delivering messages.
  • Assists with public interaction, responding to taxpayer inquiries, researching information in computer, receiving/receipting payments, and preparing deduction and exemption applications, including processing and filing forms.
  • Scans and/or fax forms as required by department procedures.
  • Distributes motor vehicle excise taxes to proper tax districts.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to meet all Department hiring requirements, including passage of a drug test.
  • Working knowledge of standard office policies and procedures and Department computer systems and related programs, and ability to apply such knowledge to a variety of interrelated processes, tasks and operations.
  • Working knowledge of and ability to comprehend and correctly use a variety of informational documents, including deeds, abstracts, sales disclosures, and other reports and records.
  • Working knowledge of standard English grammar, spelling and punctuation, and ability to complete various forms/documents and prepare written reports as required.
  • Knowledge of basic filing systems and ability to create and maintain Department files and records.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment, including computer, calculator, telephone, copier, and fax machine.
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with co-workers, other County departments, attorneys, title companies, and the public, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities and disabilities.
  • Ability to comply with all employer and department polices and work rules, including, but not limited to, attendance, safety, drug-free workplace, and personal conduct.
  • Ability to provide public access to or maintain confidentiality of department records and information according to state requirements.
  • Ability to understand, memorize, retain and follow oral and written instructions and present findings in oral or written form.
  • Ability to compare or observe similarities and differences in data, compile, collate, or classify data, and make determinations based on data analyses.
  • Ability to work alone with minimum supervision and with others in a team environment.
  • Ability to work on several tasks at the same time and work rapidly for long periods, occasionally under time pressure.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of people and/or locations, and plan and layout assigned work projects.
  • Ability to read and interpret detailed prints, sketches, layouts, specifications, and maps. Ability to perform arithmetic calculations.
  • Ability to occasionally work extended, and/or evening hours, and occasionally travel out of town for training, sometimes overnight.
Supplemental Information
Incumbent performs standard, recurring duties according to Department policies and practices with work priorities primarily determined by service needs of the public and/or seasonal deadlines. Assignments are guided by definite objectives using a variety of methods or procedures. On rare occasions, decisions are made in the absence of specific policies and procedures, and/or guidance from supervisor. Work errors are primarily detected or prevented through legally defined procedures, supervisory review and/or notification from other departments or agencies. Undetected errors could result in loss of time and money to department, and inconvenience to other agencies or the public.
Incumbent maintains contact with co-workers, other County departments, attorneys, title companies, and the public for the purpose of exchanging information.
Incumbent reports directly to Chief Deputy.
Incumbent performs duties in a standard office environment, involving sitting/walking at will, bending, reaching, keyboarding, lifting/carrying objects weighing less than 25 pounds, close/far vision, color/depth perception, speaking clearly, and hearing sounds/communication. Incumbent occasionally works extended, and/or evening hours, and occasionally travels out of town for training, sometimes overnight.
