Description
Incumbent serves as Field Coordinator for Vigo County Community Corrections, responsible for monitoring program participants assigned to home detention and work release programs.
Examples of Duties
- Enforces local, state, and federal laws by implementing effective policy to protect the lives and property of the people.
- Provides supervision of Home Detention and Work Release programs, including maintaining all work / activity scheduling for clients within each component.
- Meets with clients as required, gathering and disseminating pertinent information and instruction.
- Monitors home detention and work release program participants, maintaining record of contacts, ensuring compliance with program rules and regulations, and reporting unusual activity and / or violations to the Court.
- Installs, maintains and updates electronic monitoring equipment, maintains equipment inventory, and trains monitoring staff to properly utilize electronic monitoring hardware and software.
- Conducts random home and employment visits and maintains telephone contact with clients to assess compliance with program conditions. Administers random alcohol and drug testing and maintains records of violations.
- Provides surveillance on active clients and assists in participant, facility, and home or property searches as warranted.
- Works with other counties and various agencies to manage caseload and transferred offenders. Serves as liaison to participants and employers, including explaining program policies, answering questions, mediating conflicts, and resolving problems.
- Maintains daily reports, records, and logs, and ensures proper caseload documentation. Compiles data and prepares statistical reports as required and provides law enforcement agencies with client information on a regular basis.
- Monitors payment of program participant fees and participates in the collection process.
- Serves as disciplinary review officer, including reviewing conduct reports, conducting screening hearings, and implementing sanctions in accordance with administrative procedures.
- Organizes and assigns work crew community service.
- Answers and logs telephone calls, determining nature of call, providing information and assistance, taking messages, and / or directing caller to appropriate individual or department.
- Provides testimony in legal proceedings or court as necessary.
- Maintains current knowledge of rules, regulations, and laws concerning Community Corrections operations and ensures program is compliant with established guidelines.
- Ensures maintenance and care of all Department vehicles and equipment.
- Assists in assuming duties of other component personnel as needed.
- Maintains confidentiality and security of client information / cases.
- Attends staff meetings and completes professional development workshops, training, and education as required.
- Serves on-call and responds to emergencies on a 24-hour basis.
- Performs related duties as assigned.

Incumbent performs duties according to a formal schedule and standard Department policies and guidelines. Assignments are guided by definite objectives using a variety of methods or procedures, with incumbent referring to supervisor for unusual or unprecedented matters.
Incumbent receives indirect or occasional supervision and has a moderate degree of flexibility in the job. On rare occasions, decisions are made in the absence of specific policies and procedures, and / or guidance from supervisor. Errors in work are primarily detected or prevented through procedural safeguards and supervisory review. Undetected errors could result in endangerment to self or others and / or loss of public trust.
Incumbent maintains frequent contact with co-workers, other County departments, law enforcement agencies, Probation, Prosecutor's Office, Courts, Department of Child Services (DCS), treatment centers, social service agencies, offenders, for purposes of maintaining cooperative work relationships, explaining / interpreting policies, and resolving problems.
Incumbent reports directly to Senior Case Manager.
Incumbent performs majority of duties in a standard office environment, in a vehicle, and in the field. Regular duties involve sitting for long periods, sitting / walking at will, standing / walking for long periods, walking up / down flights of stairs, lifting / carrying / pushing / pulling objects, reaching, bending, crouching / kneeling, close / far vision, color / depth perception, keyboarding, handling / grasping / fingering objects, speaking clearly, hearing sounds / communication, driving, and exposure to varying weather conditions. Incumbent maintains considerable contact with offenders and may be exposed to irate / hostile individuals and / or physical violence. Protective gear and / or equipment must be worn according to Department policy. Universal health / safety precautions must be followed at all times to avoid contamination, infection, and / or injury to self and others.
Incumbent regularly works extended or irregular hours, evenings and / or weekends, and occasionally travels out of town for training, sometimes overnight. Incumbent regularly serves on-call and responds to emergencies on a 24-hour basis.
