Description
Incumbent serves as Deputy Assessor for the Vigo County Harrison Township Assessor, responsible for performing property assessments, maintaining appropriate documentation, and assisting the public.
Examples of Duties
- Assesses real and / or personal property, such as measuring property, conducting audits, entering sales disclosures, homesteads, splits / combinations, and transfer of deeds, including checking and filing in order.
- Performs various clerical duties, such as typing, keyboard entry, filing, sorting, and data entry.
- Assesses mobile homes, sketches houses onto system and makes changes if necessary, including data entry of commercial businesses, and working closely with the public.
- Answers telephone and greets office visitors, providing property and assessment information, and / or directing callers to appropriate individual or department.
- Downloads required information onto appropriate computer system, and pulls file cards and matches with deeds to make current.
- Calculates all breakouts on homestead for Harrison Township. Verifies sales information, approves and enters all data information.
- Processes appeals, works on agreements and completes required forms, mailing to taxpayer and scheduling hearings.
- Performs Field Agent duties as required, including, but not limited to, gathering and sorting building permits, checking property cards, and checking throughout Harrison Township for new construction, remodels, garages, sheds, and pools.
- Performs related duties as assigned.

Incumbent performs duties according to standard Department policies and guidelines with priorities primarily determined by supervisor and / or service needs of the public. Assignments are guided by following standard operating procedures or policy and procedural manuals.
Decisions are always determined by specific instructions or existing, well established policies and procedures. Errors in work are primarily detected or prevented through notification from other departments, agencies, or the public. Undetected errors could result in work delays in other departments.
Incumbent maintains frequent contact with co-workers, other County departments, Department of Local Government Finance, Property Tax Board of Appeals, and the public for purposes of exchanging and verifying information.
Incumbent reports directly to Harrison Township Chief Deputy.
Incumbent performs duties in a standard office environment and / or outdoors, involving expose to inclement weather conditions, and other hazards associated with on-site visits, such as walking on uneven terrain, and working in confined areas. Regular duties involve sitting / walking at will, lifting / carrying objects weighing less than 25 pounds, bending, reaching, crouching / kneeling, keyboarding, handling / grasping object, speaking clearly, and hearing sounds / commutations.
Incumbent occasionally travels out of town for continuing education classes, but not overnight.
