SALARY RANGE : $115,000 - $127,000

POSITION SUMMARY :

The System Administrator III is responsible for maintaining and overseeing the day-to-day operations of IT systems and infrastructure. The role requires proven expertise in system administration, troubleshooting, and ensuring that hardware, software, and networks are operating optimally.

Key Responsibilities :

System Management & Support :

  • Administer and maintain enterprise-level systems, including servers, databases, storage, and backup systems.
  • Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure systems are running efficiently and securely.
  • Support the proper deployment, monitoring, and management of critical enterprise applications.

Security Management :

  • Implement and enforce security policies, procedures, and best practices to safeguard data and systems (STIGs, Vulnerability Management)
  • Conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve network and system security issues promptly.
  • Collaborate with the Network Engineering team to ensure only required access to critical business systems and data.
  • Server & Hardware Administration :

  • Maintain and upgrade servers (both physical and virtual), ensuring high availability and disaster recovery preparedness.
  • Perform regular system backups and disaster recovery drills.
  • Manage hardware lifecycle, from procurement to decommissioning.
  • Automation & Scripting :

  • Develop and implement automation scripts for routine system administration tasks (e.g., shell, PowerShell, Python, etc.).
  • Optimize processes to reduce manual intervention and improve operational efficiency.
  • Collaboration & Support :

  • Provide support to IT staff and other departments in troubleshooting complex technical issues.
  • Assist in system deployment and configurations for new projects or initiatives.
  • Collaborate with vendors and service providers to procure and maintain hardware and software.
  • Documentation, Governance, & Reporting :

  • Maintain detailed system documentation, including configuration and procedures.
  • Prepare reports on system performance, capacity planning, and security issues for senior management.
  • Track and document changes to the IT infrastructure, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Familiarity with NIST 800-171 and Cyber Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) compliance requirements.
  • Leadership & Mentorship :

  • Provide mentorship and training to junior system administrators and other IT staff.
  • Serve as a technical point of escalation for more complex system issues.
  • Qualifications :
  • Education :
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).

  • Experience :
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in system administration, with at least 2-3 years in a senior or lead role.

  • Skills :
  • Proficiency in server operating systems (Windows, Linux, or Unix).
  • Advanced knowledge of virtualization technologies (VMware).
  • Expert level background in Windows Domain Services (Active Directory, Group Policy)
  • Familiarity with Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (Citrix)
  • Experience with cloud computing (Microsoft 365, Azure, etc.).
  • Strong knowledge of network protocols, firewalls, and security systems.
  • Experience with backup and disaster recovery solutions (Veeam, Rubrik, AvePoint, Zerto)
  • Scripting and automation skills (PowerShell, Python).
  • Expertise with infrastructure monitoring tools and system performance analysis.
  • Solid troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Certifications (Preferred but not required) :
  • CompTIA CASP , or Security
  • Microsoft MCSA : Windows Server
  • Microsoft Certified : Azure Administrator Associate, Microsoft 365 Administrator
  • VMware Certified Professional (VCP)
  • Soft Skills :

  • Strong communication skills and ability to explain technical issues to non-technical users.
  • Excellent time management and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset.
  • Working Environment :

  • Full-time position with potential for on-call support outside of regular business hours.
  • May require occasional travel for system deployments or site visits.
