What are the responsibilities and job description for the Applications Engineer Manager position at Viking Masek Packaging Technologies?
The Application Engineer Manager provides leadership, coaching, mentoring and is the primary technical resource for the sales team. They are responsible for actively driving and managing the technology evaluation stage of the sales process. Working in conjunction with the sales team and engineering as the key technical advisor and product advocate, the Application Engineer must be able to identify and provide reliable solutions for all technical issues to assure complete customer satisfaction through all stage of the sales process. Develop and measure progress through metrics and tangible goals as well as enforce policies for organizational excellence.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Supervise, lead, coach, mentor
- Establish and manage team to goals for department.
- Perform yearly reviews for direct reports
- Administrate vacation, time off, sick time for direct reports
- Assist with Dir of Engineering in creating career path reports
- Manage applications resources so that quotations are processed in an appropriate amount of time
- Ensures all projects, initiatives, and processes are in conformance with orgs established policies & objectives
- Ability to handle multiple priorities, meet key deadlines & manage changing priorities through effective time management skills
- Provide department guidance, great communication skills and high motivation
- Collaborate with the engineering department to provide customized, complete, accurate design solutions and improve upon existing ones
- Responsible for performance of systems and sign off as per process
- Communicate integral design intent to other departments/functions
- Respond to functional and technical elements of RFIs/RFPs
- Responsible for vendor qualifying
- Coordinate with proposal coordinators and engineering to obtain quotations from vendors
- Accurately and consistently apply engineering and manufacturing standards
- Provide OEM equipment and commercial item specification
- Coordinate with engineering in performing sizing and optimization analysis for making design recommendations.
- Coordinate with engineering and service techs to define and carry out testing to determine relevance of a given design to a customers need or product design.
- Perform sizing calculations or other analytics as needed in the design or modification of packaging equipment
- Maintain accurate records of technical product and machine data, projects, vendor quotations and contacts and correspondence in company approved databases
- Develop applications that effectively accomplish client objectives and user needs
- Maintain expert level of product, process and application knowledge for our products
- Gather consensus and make best decisions on sometimes less than perfect information on quotation
Qualifications:
- Education generally equivalent to a (2-4) year degree in Engineering, Product Management, related discipline or equivalent experience and specialized training
- 3-5 years of informal management experience
- 3-5 years of applications experience or equivalent
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate design
Desired Skillsets:
- 1-5 Formal management experience
- Ability to use various precision measuring instruments
- Ability to use Microsoft Office software, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, PDM
