What are the responsibilities and job description for the Project Engineer position at Viking Masek Packaging Technologies?
The Project Engineer serves as a technical resource for all project related teams. Their main objective is to support the planning, execution, and delivery of engineering projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within scope, and within budget. Working in conjunction with all the project teams as the key technical advisor and product advocate, the Project Engineer must be able to identify and provide reliable solutions for all technical issues to assure complete customer satisfaction throughout the project.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Evaluation of high complexity and high-risk projects
- Verify as sold equipment meets or exceeds project specifications
- Assist Mechanical Engineering department with engineering drawings, part numbers and various purchasing driven work.
- Ensure design intent and system functionality is maintained throughout the project.
- Review, apply, and maintain URS (User Requirement Specification) documentation to systems design and processes, ensure technical adherence to the URS throughout project execution.
- Coordinate with proposal coordinators, purchasing, and engineering to obtain quotations from vendors
- Ability to handle multiple priorities, meet key deadlines, and manage changing priorities through effective time management skills
- Provide support services relating to packaging equipment fabrication, assembly, checkout and start up.
- Perform and/or coordinate packaging equipment mechanical component and mechanical systems design services.
- Accurately and consistently apply engineering and manufacturing standards
- Create and maintain mechanical component and systems documentation, such as BOMs, spares, flow charts, part drawings, assembly drawings and schematics
- Provide OEM equipment and commercial item specification
- Coordinate with engineering in performing sizing and optimization analysis for making design recommendations.
- Coordinate with engineering and process techs to define and carry out testing to determine relevance of a given design to a customers need or product design.
- Perform sizing calculations or other analytics as needed in the design or modification of equipment
- Maintain accurate records of technical product and machine data, projects, vendor quotations and contacts and correspondence in company approved databases
- Maintain expert level of product, process, and application knowledge for our products
- Meet with customers to discuss critical project needs including but not limited to plant layout and utilities, equipment layout and utilities, and equipment functionality.
- Establish SPC and statistically capable performance criteria for products.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial) or equivalent experience and specialize training
- Minimum 3 years of experience in project engineering, applications engineering, or related field
- Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
Desired Skillsets:
- 5 of project or applications engineering experience
- Experience in client facing interactions
- Experience within the packaging industry
- Firm understanding of project management process (scope, schedule, spend)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to use Microsoft Office software, Salesforce, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, PDM and various Viking Masek systems

Business Hours: Monday through Friday - 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. These are business hours, start and end times may vary based on departmental needs. Travel may be required (can be flexible).
