Production Lead
PRIMARY PURPOSE: The production lead position manages the build of custom mechanical systems for industrial robotic automation projects. This position is responsible for organizing highly complex production activities of multiple engineering projects and stakeholders in accordance with VMRA and applicable governing standards. As a working lead, this role is responsible for not only supervising direct labor but also performing direct labor activities.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervises and adheres to the VMRA production process, including meeting deadlines and quality specifications per the direction of the Operations Leader.
- Organizes and manages the build of highly complex automation machinery, robotic cells and material handling systems, including developing and checking of project schedules, production drawings, and bills of material.
- Supervises assigned assembly personnel.
- Completes daily assignments per the direction of the Operations Manager.
- Leads production meetings and provides updates to the Operations Manager on production tasks and resource allocation.
- Works in conjunction with the Facility & Installation Manager to organize the production facility, including documentation locations, and maintains/improves production workflows.
- Performs quality audits on projects.
- Assists with on-site installation activities where needed.
- Trains and develops automation assembly technicians.
- Develops and maintains positive relations with suppliers, customers, and IAS team members.
- Completes production tasks as time allows.
- Knows and follows all safety rules, such as safe work practices and standard operating procedures.
- Other job duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY/MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES:
Three to six direct reports.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Three (3) years of production experience.
- Strong computer skills, particularly with the MS Office Suite.
- Knowledge of safety standards for a manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as machining, grinding, metal cutting, hand assembly, and fastener selection.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Two (2) years of experience supervising direct reports.
- E drawing or comparable CAD experience.
- Experience building and maintaining robotic manufacturing cells.
- Experience with managing projects (e.g. delegation, facilitation).
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing Methods, Risk Management, waste reduction, 65, etc.
- Experience with automation or manufacturing related design.
- Knowledge of automation and manufacturing processes and designs.
GENERAL SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:
- A strong mechanical aptitude.
- Experience with the application of motion components, including pneumatic/electric actuators.
- Experience working within cross-functional teams to handle multiple priorities and meet scheduled milestones.
- Possesses a desire and capability to coach and mentor direct reports, interns, and other project partners.
- Communicates effectively and acts as a conduit between various elements of production, project management, and engineering.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
