What are the responsibilities and job description for the Early Childhood Nature Program Instructor position at Vilda?
Vilda, a non-profit dedicated to facilitating meaningful nature connections, is seeking an exceptional early childhood educator to join our dedicated team of instructors. Programs take place in various sites in Marin County and Petaluma. During the summer, you would work M-F 8:15-3:45 at Lake Lagunitas, Fairfax (most weeks), Stafford Lake, Novato (2 weeks), and China Camp SP, San Rafael (1 week). During the school year, you would be teaching 30-35 hours per week, with at least one day in Fairfax and at least one day in Petaluma. Responsibilities :
- In your first year, you would assist our current early childhood lead instructor with planning and leading all-outdoor nature connection day programs incorporating multi-sensory opening and closing circles, exploration, play, songs, stories, and nature crafts
- Maintain group safety (emotional and physical) throughout the day
- Communicate effectively with parents, keeping them up to date on their progress, activities, and any relevant information
- Collaborate with the lead teacher and other staff to create a cohesive and supportive learning environment
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- A positive, flexible and heart based outlook on life
- 3 or more years of experience working with children in educational fields, 1 or more of those in nature education
- Knowledge of local plants and animals and a desire to be outdoors in any weather
- Total comfort in jumping in and teaching a group of 10-12 kids outdoors and great student management skills
- Responsible, enjoy working with a small team
- Current first aid and CPR (WFA or WFR preferred)
- Reliable transportation and ability to work at our San Rafael, Fairfax, Novato or Petaluma sites
- Excellent communication skills and ability to respond to emails within a week and texts within 24 hours during the work week
OPTIONAL BUT AWESOME:
- Some training in the Jon Young 8 Shields lineage, Tom Brown kids programs or other similar program
- Background in Early Childhood Education or Waldorf Education
- Craft skills such as basketry, felting, herbalism, carpentry
- Currently based in the North Bay with intentions to stay in the area
