Nurse Manager RN Job Description
The Nurse Manager RN oversees the day-to-day nursing operations of the facility, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The Nurse Manager works under the direction of the Director of Nursing (DON) or Administrator, ensuring the highest standards of quality care are maintained.
Key Responsibilities:
- Staff Management: Supervise nursing staff, manage schedules, assign duties, and oversee performance. Conduct performance reviews, enforce policies, and issue coaching or corrective actions as needed.
- Recruitment & Training: Lead recruitment, onboarding, clinical orientation, and ongoing training for nursing staff.
- Coordination: Collaborate with administration, medical staff, therapy, and other departments to plan and deliver care.
- Quality Assurance: Conduct frequent rounds to assess resident/patient conditions and ensure nursing standards are upheld. Ensure cleanliness and sanitation of work and care areas.
- Documentation & Reporting: Ensure restorative care notes are thorough and descriptive. Provide and receive nursing reports at the start and end of shifts.
- Resident Monitoring: Observe and evaluate residents’ physical and emotional status daily.
- HIPAA Compliance: Adhere to HIPAA guidelines and confidentiality standards in all activities.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Current CPR and BLS certification from recognized organizations (American Heart Association or American Red Cross).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and team management abilities.
- Skilled in multitasking, problem-solving, and remaining calm under stress.
- Ability to prioritize and delegate tasks effectively.
- Knowledge of infection control standards and policies.
- Flexibility to work varying hours and occasional overnight travel.
Education & Experience:
- Nursing degree or diploma from an accredited institution.
- Valid RN license in the state of practice.
- At least 2 years of supervisory experience (preferred).
- Experience in long-term care and MDS is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to walk, bend, lift, reach, and sit for extended periods.
- Fine hand coordination and the ability to distinguish smells and temperatures.
