JOB DESCRIPTION FOR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF VILLA FINALE: MUSEUM & GARDENS

I. DUTIES OF EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

The duties of Executive Director of Villa Finale: Museum & Gardens shall be:

The position of the Executive Director may be equated to that of any senior operating officer employed by any professional organization. As such, the Executive Director assumes control and management of the administrative processes of the operation of Villa Finale. It is essential that the executive bring to the position an ability to adopt broad comprehensive views of the organization’s objective, as well as an ability to establish and implement the necessary steps of the attainment of the objective. The Executive Director is responsible for the smooth running and successful implementation of the organization’s operations. It is recognized that financial stability is of paramount importance to any organization and emphasis is slanted toward the task of income generation. The Executive Director is accountable for all of Villa Finale’s operating affairs and will make timely reports to the Board of Directors.

II. JOB DESCRIPTION

The Executive Director shall perform the following tasks or duties:

1. Serve as primary liaison to the Board of Directors

A. Coordinate the meeting and retreat agendas with Villa Finale Chair.

B. Attend all regular and special meetings of the Villa Finale Board of Directors.

C. Support all Board of Director Committees.

D. Keep Board of Directors informed by timely reports deemed necessary by the Executive Director, required by the Board, required by the by-laws, and/or required by law.

E. Identify and research issues for the Board of Directors.

F. Plan and execute the operations of Villa Finale in accordance with the by-laws and policies of the Board.

G. Lead the strategic guidance of the organization, including oversight of the organization’s ongoing planning process, annual goals, events and programming calendar, and operational strategy.

H. Work with Board of Directors to ensure financial stability and professionalism.

I. Develop and present to the Executive Committee a strategy for accomplishing the objectives of the Board of Directors.

2. Serve as primary contact for Information and Communications

A. Act as primary public relations contact and spokesperson as appropriate.

B. Act as historic preservation community liaison (for organizations including the King William Association, Conservation Society of San Antonio, Office of Historic Preservation, etc.).

C. Manage and build community partnerships and partner programs.

D. Coordinate information repository for the organization

E. Maintain a personal understanding of local, state and federal laws and regulations as they apply to the mission and operations of the organization.

3. Serve as principal fundraiser

A. Manage annual budget and plan future spending.

B. Research grant opportunities; pursue grants as directed by the Board of Directors.

C. Develop corporate partners for current projects.

D. Develop fund raising vehicles for the organization.

E. Oversee membership development.

F. Oversee and plan marketing for the organization, including press releases, email marketing, print media and online presence.

4. Manage Office Staff

A. Oversee the day-to-day operations of the museum.

B. Serve as supervisor of office staff (including conducting staff evaluations).

C. Develop office staff position descriptions and make hiring and termination decisions in collaboration with the Board of Directors.

D. Recruit and screen candidates for office staff positions.

E. Back up other staff as necessary.

F. Perform finance and budget oversight.

G. Act as project management for temporary and permanent exhibits, programs and community outreach initiatives.

H. Oversee educational programming, including tours.

5. Other Duties as Assigned

The Executive Director shall report to and be supervised directly by the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of Villa Finale. The Executive Director shall supervise the office staff and any other employees. The Executive Director shall be subject to performance reviews conducted by the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors at annual intervals. Compensation of the Executive Director shall be that recommended by the Executive Committee and approved by the Board of Directors.

Desired Knowledge and Experience:

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, with at least five years as a leader in a museum or project management.
  • Experience in developing and administering strategic plans
  • Experience supervising staff and working with organization governing bodies.
  • Experience in business or public administration
  • Experience and knowledge of developing and managing a financial budget.
  • Knowledge of professional standards in museum best practices.
  • Grant writing or fundraising experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge of methods and theories for exhibit design.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work will generally take place in an office setting. The position involves moderate physical activity, with occasional lifting or physical exertion.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $90,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year

Salary : $90,000 - $110,000
