What are the responsibilities and job description for the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) position at Villa Serena Healthcare Center?
SUMMARY
Under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse / Licensed Vocational Nurse, the Certified Nursing Assistant assists in the direct resident care including vital signs, bathing, beds, and all other activities of daily living.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Taking Resident Vital Signs : Ensures that resident’s temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, and O2 saturation are taken and recorded as per instruction. Knows normal standards and appropriately reports abnormalities in a timely manner. Asks resident if they are in pain and reports to nurse as indicated.
2. Monitoring of fluid and food intake : Ensures that fluid and food intake and output is appropriately measured and recorded.
3. ADL’s : Performs activities of daily living skills for residents including bathing, oral hygiene, care of hair, oral feedings, positioning, transfers (able to demonstrate using total body lift and easy stand lift), etc.
4. Responsiveness to change in resident status : Ensures that any change in resident condition or unusual circumstances is reported immediately to the charge nurse.
5. Administering Basic Life Support : Recognizes and communicates cardiopulmonary arrest or other emergency situations and initiates basic life support when appropriate.
6. Isolation techniques : Practices correct isolation techniques to maintain a safe environment and to control the spread of infection (ex- proper hand washing techniques).
7. Showers & Weights : Performs shower and accurately measures and records resident weight.
8. Resident Transports : Accompanies residents to treatment centers if needed; assists transporters in moving residents in / out of vehicle when necessary.
9. Equipment Cleanliness : Maintains the cleanliness of various instruments and equipment per hospital policy.
10. Keeping resident rooms clean : Keeps resident rooms in clean and orderly condition; makes beds, replaces soiled linen; straightens bedside tables and prepares the room for occupancy.
11. Restocking supplies in resident rooms : Assists in restocking rooms with supplies and equipment as directed.
12. Shift reports / notes : Exchanges and communicates resident care information via charge nurse and shift report.
13. Daily resident care activities : Prioritizes and completes resident care activities and meets all resident needs within shift parameters.
14. Documentation : Completes all required documentation of resident care per shift.
15. Audit Deficiencies : Corrects audit deficiencies of medical records within allotted time frames.
16. Conflict resolution : Resolves, with assistance from charge nurse, areas of concern or conflict with resident’s families and / or co-workers in a professional, proactive and courteous manner.
17. Instructions / Directions from Supervisors : Accepts direction from supervisors and other management team members in a positive and professional manner.
18. This position serves as a member of the overall team and as such is required to maintain a positive attitude towards all team members and residents. In addition, this position must function as a positive supporter of the facility policies and procedures at all times following the lead of the management team, administrative team and the facility administrator.
19. Other Duties : Performs other duties as assigned by the Administrator.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to fulfill each essential duty with a strong degree of professionalism. This position requires a detail-oriented professional with excellent communication skills. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and / or ability required.
- Minimum of H.S. degree or equivalent.
- Long-Term care experience preferably in a sub-acute setting
- Must be certified as a Certified Nursing Assistant in the State of California.
- Must be certified in CPR.
- Must maintain current certification in good standing during employment with this facility in accordance to the State Board.
