Description
The Village R&D Mechanical Engineer position will be responsible for taking an idea “from art to part” for the various brands within The Village of Companies. This position will design, model, and build new products during the development cycle with adherence to Village Design Standards. This position will also be responsible for modifying existing designs when required.
Responsibilities:
- Create 3D design drawings and finalized assembly drawings for a wide variety of products.
- Validate and check drawings of other designers for completeness and conformance to industry standards.
- Design and build test fixtures for longevity testing, functionality, and life testing.
- Design and build prototype units at various levels of refinement.
- Work with cross-functional teams to develop ideas/generate prototypes.
Materials and Equipment Utilized:
- Computers, printers, etc.
Working Environment:
- 5% Manufacturing: clean, low to moderate noise, safety glasses required, and other personal protective equipment (PPE) where applicable.
- 95% - Office Environment
Requirements
Education/Training:
- Enrollment in a Mechanical Engineering or Prototype Technician program.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Computer skills - 3D modeling and design experience (Solidworks is a plus) & MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Knowledge of ERP Systems a plus - Syteline or Epicor is a plus
- Familiar with Engineering Change processes
- Experience designing fabricated parts and mechanisms
- Familiarity with metal working, woodworking equipment, and 3D Printing is a plus
- Flexible and can quickly adjust to change
- Demonstrate positive teamwork
- Critical thinking & problem solving skills

- Minimal
Physical Requirements:
- Be able to lift at least 25 lbs and up to 50 lbs for short periods
- Ability to climb in and around vehicles and/or machinery at customer sites
