Title: Secondary Principal
Reports to: Head of Schools
General Description:
The Principal contributes to the fulfillment of the mission of Village Christian Academy by using leadership, supervisory, and administrative skills to create a culture and climate within his/her division that is conducive to every student's spiritual, educational, emotional, and physical development. The Principal provides leadership in the school community by communicating and maintaining the vision and mission of the school within his/her division.
It is desirable that church employees regularly attend worship services (virtually or physically). By doing so, they will be more in touch with Village Baptist Church’s life, activities, and patterns.
Evaluation:
The Head of Schools will evaluate the principal's performance in accordance with Academy policy and this job description.
Assigned Duties:
Regarding Policy and Communication:
- Support and ensure the division is compliant with all school procedures and policies
- Identify problem areas of the school, determine solutions, and make recommendations for updates and improvements to current procedures and policies
- Encourage and ensure that VCA stakeholders are kept abreast of current educational research and contextualize findings to VCA
- Oversee and ensure that VCA Secondary School is in full compliance with our accreditors and legal
- requirements upon private schools by local, county, state, and federal agencies
Regarding Supervision:
- Ensure all teachers are engaged in continual and ongoing personal and professional development
- Engage in a data-driven and measurable system of teacher performance evaluation
- Complete a summative evaluation of all teachers directly under his/her supervision annually
- Serve as a spiritual leader
- Conduct regular and effective faculty meetings focused on collaboration, data reviews, instruction, assessment, curriculum, and learning environment improvements
- Co-interview all prospective teaching applicants
- Oversee disciplinary programs/issues
- Ensure that cumulative records are complete, current, and correct
Regarding Relationships:
- Represent the school at parent, church, and community groups as able
- Be available to meet parents and other interested people
- Provide prompt attention to all complaints and inquiries
- Keep a record of department procedures and how they are best handled (e.g., Christmas programs, re-registration, field trips, class parties)
- Intentionally develop future leaders (e.g., team leaders)
- Develop a succession plan
Regarding Finance:
- Ensure the division operates within the budget
- Assist the Superintendent in the development of the budget
Qualifications
Personal Qualifications:
- a commitment to live in a Christ-like manner
- a passion for the continual and ongoing development of faculty and staff
- physical and mental stamina as well as emotional stability
- an ability to work well with students and parents
Professional Qualifications:
- Master’s degree (preferred in Educational Leadership / Administration)
- Christian school administration experience (minimum 3 years)
- Teaching experience (minimum 3 years)
- Coaching/Mentoring experience in instruction, curriculum, and assessment best-practices
- ACSI / COGNIA accreditation experience
- ACSI and/or state principal certification
