If this sounds like you, then you may be the perfect candidate for a summer seasonal maintenance worker job with the Village's Public Works Department. You will spend the summer doing day-to-day maintenance of Village properties, roadways, and facilities, as well as general landscaping and other duties as assigned.
ABOUT BROOKFIELD
The Village of Brookfield, population 19,476, is a vibrant, diverse community located 13 miles west of downtown Chicago that offers convenient transportation with numerous community amenities including respected schools, an excellent library, three Metra train stations and a parks and recreation system. This non-home rule municipality is home to the Brookfield Zoo, owned by the Cook County Forest Preserve District and operated by the Chicago Zoological Society. Village departments include Village Manager’s Office, Finance, Community Development, Fire, Police, Public Works, and Parks and Recreation.
COMPENSATION & HOURS
- The hourly rate for the position is $17.00.
- This position will be from May - September with work hours of 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday - Friday and may include weekend hours or schedule changes.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
- Day-to-day maintenance and upkeep of Village properties, roadways, and facilities as assigned by the Director of Public Works, a Division Foreman, or their designee.
- Examples of day-to-day work may include, but not limited to, watering plants and vegetation, turf or landscape care, assisting with tree maintenance, litter and debris picking, assisting with repair of broken pavements, assisting with a variety of construction or repair related projects throughout the community, general painting, responding to work orders if assigned, cleaning up job sites when work is completed, and maintaining tools and equipment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be at least 18 years of age at time of hire.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Must be able to communicate well verbally, in writing, by phone and text.
- Must be self-motivated, reliable, and maintain the ability to work as part of a team as well as independently.
