The Village of Caledonia Fire Department, Racine County, Wisconsin, is seeking highly motivated, dedicated fire service personnel to fill current vacancies for the position of full-time Firefighter/Paramedic. The Caledonia Fire Department (CFD) is an “all-hazards” career department that provides fire and medical services to the 27,804 residents of the Villages of Caledonia, Wind Point, and North Bay. In 2025 the department will be budgeted for 50 personnel: (1) Fire Chief, (1) administrative assistant, (3) Battalion Chiefs, (9) Lieutenants, and (36) firefighters/EMT basic or paramedics. In 2023 the department responded to 3437 calls for emergency services.

This position's annual salary (2024) is $63,292.32 to $83,748.70 for firefighter/EMT and $66,456.94 to $88,815.50 for firefighter/Paramedic (steps 1 through 7).
State of WI residency is required within three months of completing an 18-month probationary period.
The Village has the authority to employ lateral transfers to hire firefighter paramedics. For eligibility as a lateral transfer, a candidate must:
Rank, longevity, sick leave accrual, current and post-retirement benefits, and probationary period will be in accordance with the guidelines specified for new employees as outlined in the current collective bargaining agreement. The most recent date of hire with the Village shall be utilized to establish seniority.
- The firefighter is responsible for fire suppression, fire inspection, vehicle and fire station maintenance, hazardous material response, rescue operations, and emergency medical services.
- Operate and perform maintenance checks on all fire department vehicles and equipment.
- Respond as a medical team member to bring basic or advanced emergency medical care to the community's citizens.
- Prepare reports and maintain records under the supervision of the shift commander/shift officer.
- Participate in daily training exercises and classroom lectures.
- Conduct fire inspections in various occupancies in the jurisdiction.
- Perform duties as a fire apparatus driver and motor pump operator when assigned.
- Perform duties as a certified firefighter/EMT/paramedic according to the department's criteria and standards.
- Responsible for station cleanliness and maintenance of apparatus, tools, equipment, and all other fire department property.
- Conduct demonstrations, tours, and public speeches on fire safety, fire prevention, CPR, fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, first aid, and other subjects to the public
Applicants must provide proof of the following:
- Valid Driver’s License
- High School or Equivalency Diploma
- Valid State of Wisconsin or National Registry - Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).
- State of Wisconsin Paramedic licensure is preferred. Current Paramedic students are strongly encouraged to apply. Paramedic licensure may be required as a condition of employment. CFD is an authorized preceptor agency for WCTC, MATC, and Gateway paramedic students.
- State of Wisconsin Certified Firefighter I certification is required within six months of hire. State of Wisconsin Firefighter II certification is required prior to completing an 18-month probationary period.
- Candidate Physical Ability Test Certification (CPAT) within sixty days of the date of hire.

- possess, at a minimum, a State of Wisconsin licensure or National Registry certification as an Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic and Wisconsin State Firefighter Level 2 or equivalent.
- CPAT Certification on date of hire.
- The Village and the Police & Fire Commission may establish additional qualifications. Lateral transfers shall follow the same application, eligibility, and onboarding process as all new hires.
