SEASONAL RESIDENT PARK CARETAKER - Memorial Day to Labor Day
Fairy Spring and Three Mile Park Caretakers perform their duties under the jurisdiction of the Board of Parks Commissioners and under the supervision of the Village Clerk. This is a fulltime, seasonal position commencing Memorial Weekend and running through Labor Day Weekend.
Job Description
Caretakers serve as the Village’s host to its parks and manage the sites by opening the parks, welcoming visitors, issuing passes, collecting fees, preparing usage reports, and initiating and coordinating park repair and maintenance. They provide the public face to the parks and ensure that the parks are welcoming, safe, and enjoyable for visitors. Caretakers reside at their assigned park throughout their employment with the Village.
Qualifications
Must be outgoing with excellent interpersonal skills. Must have a minimum of two (2) years experience in customer service, hospitality, facilities management or related field. Must have experience managing multiple responsibilities. Must be willing and able to perform general yard work, gardening, and weeding, and cleaning. CPR certification required. Preference may be given to those who are lifeguard-certified, over 21 years of age, and/or those who apply as a team of 2 persons to share Caretaker responsibilities
Duties:
GENERAL
- Reside at the Park and be in the Park at all times while it is open. Substitute coverage must have prior approval from the Village Clerk
- Wear “Caretaker” t-shirt for identification
- Greet all visitors to the park, issue and check for season passes, and collect fees. Prepare weekly reports of number of Parks visitors, number of passes distributed, and of fees collected. Deliver cash and reports to Village Treasurer’s Office on Monday mornings. Caretakers will obtain and maintain a supply of tickets and passes from the Treasurer’s Office.
- Enforce Park rules and regulations including opening and closing times, and prevent unauthorized use of the Parks before and after hours.
- By September 15th, submit written report to the Village Clerk & Chair of the Village Parks Board.
MAINTENANCE
- Sweep, mop and disinfect all Park buildings daily. Check all buildings throughout the day for standing water and mop as needed. Clean bathrooms periodically throughout the day. Clean picnic tables daily.
- Clean debris from grounds and swimming area each morning before the Park opens. Clear stones and brush from walkways.
- Check Park daily for hazardous conditions and notify Village Clerk immediately if any problems develop. Given the proliferation of zebra mussels in Otsego Lake, caretakers will conduct daily visual inspections of decks, ladders, and beach areas and remove zebra mussel shells as necessary.
LIFEGUARD SUPERVISION
- Work with all Lifeguards in carrying out Emergency Action Plans.
- Assist lifeguards in maintenance of docks and beaches.
- Designated Caretakers will prepare and implement the Lifeguard work schedules for both Three Mile and Fairy Spring Parks. Obtain last-minute substitutes as needed and maintain records of last-minute substitutions, keep timecards, review timecards with lifeguards and obtain guard’s signature on cards. Caretaker will countersign cards and deliver them to the Village Office by 9am each Monday morning. At this time they will also deliver cash, reports, and updated lifeguard schedules to the Village Office.
- Caretakers at both Three Mile and Fairy Spring oversee the daily work of lifeguards and work in cooperation with the Senior Lifeguard to address problems
