The Village of Croton-on-Hudson seeks a professional, well-organized individual to serve as the Deputy Village Treasurer. As the second person to hold this title in the Village, the successful applicant will be required to take a Civil Service Exam at a future date and be reachable for appointment. The Village of Croton-on-Hudson, founded in 1898, is a suburban community located in Westchester County, New York, and has a population of approximately 8,300. The Village operates under the Council-Manager form of government, having established the office of Village Manager in 1971. The Village’s General Fund Budget is approximately $22.2 million with total budgets across all funds of approximately $25.6 million. The Village government provides a full range of services including: police, fire, EMS, justice court, public works, water, parks & recreation, building inspection and land use administration.
Under the direct supervision of the Village Treasurer, the Deputy Village Treasurer will be responsible for the day-to-day activity of the Water Fund, including the quarterly processing of water bills, scheduling final reads for properties transferring ownership, and service orders for the Water Dept. This position will process payments received on a daily basis and make adjustments to bills as necessary. The Deputy Village Treasurer will also be responsible for the Village’s accounts receivable billing for various items, including commercial garbage pickup, retiree health insurance, fire inspections, and billable overtime hours. The successful applicant will be expected to assist in month-end reporting as well as preparation for, and execution of, the annual audit. The successful applicant must be able to work in a busy office environment, be a self-starter and capable of working independently, as well as have excellent quantitative, writing and communication skills. Preferred skills include knowledge of the MUNIS software program, hands-on municipal budgeting experience, comprehensive knowledge of GASB accounting standards and reporting requirements, generally accepted accounting principles and internal control procedures.
Minimum Training and Experience: A high school diploma is required, along with six years of experience where the primary function of the position was financial recordkeeping and/or financial auditing. A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or a closely related field may be substituted for four years of the work experience described above.
Salary and Benefits: The salary range for the position is $80,000 to $85,000 per year depending on qualifications and experience. A generous benefit package is also included.
