What are the responsibilities and job description for the Community Risk Reduction Intern position at Village of Elk Grove?
The Village of Elk Grove Village is seeking a college-enrolled fire science student to assist the Fire Department’s Inspectional Services Division during the summer of 2025. Interested applicants should be enrolled in a college level Fire Science or closely related curriculum. This position primarily conducts fire inspections and/or fire pre-incident surveys in commercial properties in accordance with the Village’s fire codes and ordinances. General knowledge of fire codes is required.
Duties of the Community Risk Reduction Intern include, but are not limited to:
- Perform fire and life safety inspections and/or fire pre-incident surveys (scheduled and unscheduled) at commercial properties located within the Village. Requires use of a computerized tablet.
- Conduct site meetings with property owners, business representative, and/or licensed professionals.
- Document and monitor code violations. Prepare reports and related correspondence.
- Use Fire Department computer database program to maintain records and run queries.
- Participate in Community Risk Reduction projects, events, and teams, as assigned.
This is a paid position, which will provide the successful applicant with an excellent opportunity to observe and participate in various Community Risk Reduction activities.
WORK SCHEDULE: Preferred work schedule is Monday to Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm. Position is for the summer months, typically mid-May through mid-August.
SALARY RANGE: $17.00/Hour HOURS OF WORK: 40 Hours/Week
