The Village of Glendale Heights Public Works Department Streets Division is seeking student applicants for the temporary position of Civil Engineering Intern. This position is expected to begin work in late-May and continue through August (approximately 10 to 12 weeks). The Civil Engineering Intern will be responsible for supporting the Streets Division of the Public Works Department in the planning, designing, administration, and construction of capital improvement and maintenance projects.
Primary Duties:
- Perform construction inspections.
- Participate on survey crews.
- Data collection and research for Village GIS.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- At least 18 years of age.
- Full-time student of sophomore status or higher pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering at an accredited college or university.
- General knowledge of civil engineering concepts, practices, and theories.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel; GIS systems; and ability to learn other software programs.
- Valid driver’s license.
This is a temporary position for the summer months in 2025. Typical work hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., 40 hours weekly. Work may be performed in outdoor conditions and/or near vehicular traffic.
All job offers are conditional upon the satisfactory outcome of pre-employment drug testing and background check. Employees are required to have their permanent residency within a 15-mile radius of the Village, unless an exception is approved by the Village Administrator.
