Monitoring: Conduct daily inspections of Village trees, landscaped areas and natural area restorations. Identify invasive species problem areas and report them to the Natural Resources Manager.
Planning: Consult with Natural Resources Manager to flexibly prioritize areas and species most in need of control and to determine appropriate means of control. Participate in local and regional planning groups focused on natural areas.
Invasive Species Control: Implement invasive species control plans using such methods as spot spraying, wicking, or painting with appropriate herbicides, hand pulling, cutting, or girdling woody and herbaceous invasive plants. Among the invasive species likely to be controlled are teasel, sweet clover, bull and Canada thistles, purple loosestrife, and buckthorn.
Public Outreach: Represent the Village at tours, events, public meetings, and other opportunities to interact with residents and visitors and explain our natural resources policies and programs. Assist in outreach related to the Plan for Nature, Heritage Tree program, Rain Garden cost-share program, tree planting incentive program, and buckthorn removal incentive program.
