What are the responsibilities and job description for the Water/Wastewater Operator position at Village of Johnson Creek?
The Village of Johnson Creek is seeking dedicated and skilled Water/Sewer Utility Operators to join our team. The Water and Sewer Utilities have made significant improvements in recent years, with major upgrades planned for the near future. As a member of the utility team, you will be part of these exciting projects like the transition to a state-of-the-art sludge dewatering and dehumidification process designed to produce Class A product, with construction beginning in 2025. Additionally, the Water Utility is finalizing plans for a new well and treatment facility to meet the demands of our growing community. The Village is looking for Water/Sewer Utility Operators committed to being part of the team and high-quality staff that make Johnson Creek great! Water/Sewer Utility Operators work under the direction of the Director of Public Works and Lead Water/Sewer Utility Operator. Your work will directly impact our residents and businesses as you perform a variety of skilled technical and maintenance work in the operation, maintenance, and repair of the wastewater treatment facilities and system, as well as work with operations of the water treatment facility and distribution system. Utility Operators also collaborate on a variety of Public Works and other projects throughout the community.
Minimum Qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent degree and a valid Wisconsin driver’s license. A working knowledge of wastewater equipment, facilities, materials, and procedures used for plant operation and maintenance will be important. Well qualified candidates will possess an associate degree in the water or wastewater field, a Wisconsin DNR Water and Wastewater Operator Certificate, and/or valid Wisconsin Commercial Driver’s License. Operators must possess or obtain the Wisconsin DNR General Wastewater Exam certification as well as subclass A1-Suspended Growth Processes within one year of their date of hire. Additional certifications may include Laboratory (J), Primary treatment (A), Disinfection (E), Mechanical Sludge (G), and Phosphorus Removal (I). This position will also include requirements for Wisconsin DNR Waterworks Operator certification in Groundwater (G) and Distribution (D), and Iron Removal (I) for the water system.
This position is full-time and requires a rotating on-call schedule. The pay range for the Utility Operator position begins at $25.00/hour, with additional compensation for relevant certifications and experience. Extra compensation may be available to successful applicants who are members of the Johnson Creek Fire & EMS Department or employees who become members of the Department!
