The Village of Lincolnwood, Illinois (13,463 2020 census) is a diverse home-rule municipality directly north of the City of Chicago consisting of 2.7 square miles, with a unique blend of residential, commercial, and manufacturing areas. The Village is seeking an individual to serve as a Public Works Equipment Operator. Work involves performance of a variety of tasks which may include repair and maintenance of parkways, trees, and alleys. Specific work assignments are provided on a daily basis and may be rotated. Work includes the operation of motorized equipment and requires heavy physical labor. The position is subject to being available for on-call duty for emergencies, as determined by the Director of Public Works, which requires availability at any hour or day.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- This position is subject to being scheduled for on-call duty, which requires availability at any hour of any day.
- Operate backhoe, end loader, aerial device, grader, riding mower, street sweeper, skid-steer loader, chipper machine, and catch basin cleaner or other similar equipment in the course of performing assignments.
- Repair and maintenance of water and sewer lines.
- Repair and maintenance of streets, sidewalks and curbs.
- Operates snow plow, salt spreader or tractor as part of snow and ice control program.
- Landscapes and maintains parks, parkways and planted areas.
- General Facility, building and equipment maintenance.
- Operates and maintains department equipment.
- Complies with all Village Policies, Protocols, and Procedures.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Required Skills/Education/Experience
Requires training or experience equivalent to the completion of standard high school requirements and a minimum of two years experience in public service operations or a related field. Must obtain Class B Commercial Drivers License (CDL) within the first six months of hire.
Hours and Compensation
The salary range for this position is $32.27 - $40.38 hourly. This is a full-time, union, non-exempt position. This position is eligible for overtime. All applicants must be able to work 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday and as needed for overtime events.
